History
Lunasoleil has been a quiet and stable democracy for many hundreds of years, keeping to itself and largely avoiding deals with other nations. Thanks to the fertile areas of flat land at the edges of the Memin mountain range, Lunasoleil has been able to provide for itself in terms of food. Power has not been so available, due to the lack of much source and dispute over whether drilling for oil on the coast is a good idea or not. Lunasoleil generates a lot of its power through solar and hydroelectric power but now wishes to finally create ties with other nations to obtain power in other ways that allow them to leave their small oil source untouched. As for the governing of Lunasoleil, it has been a stable democracy since 1784, when a revolution overthrew the monarchy. The opinion polls show a large slide to the Liberal Socialist party, with the Ecologist, Conservative and Communist parties behind. The country already has a relatively large population of old people, but the population is growing faster than ever, which is benefiting the economy. Lunasoleil was made a French colony in the early 18th century and the land became a largely white, Christian nation. However, the natives remained to thrive, and after the largely native-supported overthrow of the monarchy put into place by the French, many of the white people left for bordering nations and France. The natives began to spread Buddhism around the nation again, and it soon became the nation's leading religion. However, the French culture did leave a massive impact on the nation, as the citizens were inspired by the food, architecture and the arts that the French brought with them. The French largely expanded the main cities, and gave them French names, which have stayed to this day, although most also have a Luseniu name.
Government
The Government is a left-wing party, properly known as The Lunasoleil Democratic Liberal Socialist Party (Liberal Socialists for short), who are elected through a proportional representation election system. The districts play no part in the election, and every vote counts. So, if 60% of the votes go to one party, 60% of the Parliament will be held by that party. Although it would be tempting to change the system, the long-standing current party, the Liberal Socialists, keep it the way it is for popularity's sake, despite their potential loss of seats in parliament; the voting majority is usually large enough for the Liberal Socialist party to be happy with the current system. The party with the most votes, as well as getting their percentage of the parliament, get the final say on most decisions such as social security, trade and military (albeit the military is very small). On some major decisions, referendums are held. The place where parliament is held is in the capital city, Métro-Principe. The name of the building is Parliamentiary Estate Tower (P.E.T.) The are five districts in Lunasoleil: Memin, Principe, Luna Vista, Cremeny, Melipine. These districts each have their own councils which make decisions that will only affect citizens on a local scale.
People
The age structure is as follows: 0-14 years old: 23%, 15-64 years old: 63%, 65+ years old: 15%. The median age is 36 and the life expectancy is 74. The citizens of Lunasoleil are known as the Lusolue (Lu-sol-way). They are made up of 17% white people, 5% black people and 78% native people. The primary language is Luseniu (Lu-sen-yu) with French being the secondary language, which is also compulsory in school for 5 years of learning. The literacy rate in Lunasoleil is 98% thanks to the very efficient education system.
Religion
The main religions are Buddhism (46%), Atheist/Agnostic (28%), Christianity (19%). The rest of the 7% of the population believe in other faiths. Christianity was introduced when the French claimed the nation as a colony, but it did not become the main religion, as the natives (mainly Buddhists and Atheists/Agnostics) rebelled against the French government successfully and the French population (largely Christians) left the country in large numbers. However, Christianity is still one of the country's main religions.
Leader
The leader of the Lusolue government is Prime Minister Mathis Remineau. He was elected originally 4 years ago and again this year - he is now serving his second term in power. There is no maximum time that a prime minister can serve. PM Remineau is the leader of the Liberal Socialist party. He is very popular with the working and middle classes, which is most of the population, as aristocracy is largely frowned upon and nonexistant in the nation. Remineau was born to a French father and an Lusolue mother, so he is mixed race.
