The figures shown in this section are given to provide a barometer of Gruenberg’s state of development. They are in no way guaranteed to be wholly accurate, and should not be used as a basis for investment or academic research. Those wishing to obtain more detailed statistics should apply directly to the relevant Ministries to investigate the possibility of commissioning specific research projects.

==TRANSPORT==

===CIVIL AVIATION===

====Airports====

There are six international airports in Gruenberg, in the cities of Flurthwel, Sal-Siabi, Kallan, Moroschwegen and Gevenis in Naffarron, and in Rohansas, in the Gelzien Nub. The latter is in fact the country's largest, with a capacity of 5 million passengers annually. Most major towns have landing-strips and facilities for national flights.

The airport at Moroschwegen is currently being extended, with an extra four runways under construction, and is set to become the largest airport in Gruenberg, taking over from the Gelzien Prov-Port at Rohansas. The Woltzten High Royal Air Centre at Gevenis has now been closed for over 18 months, after Gelzien terrorist insurgents blew up two planes parked on the runway, badly damaging the terminal building and killing 117 civilians in the process. It is expected to reopen in The 733rd Year.

====Airlines====

In The 723rd Year, His High Holiness Grand Sultan Gardab Woltzten IX ended the government monopoly on all forms of transport in Gruenberg, but until relatively recently the air travel market was slow to open up, partly because the Court continued to give preferential subsidies to the state-run Gruenair company, but several genuine competitors have now emerged. Air travel remains a relatively small corner of the market, and foreign investment remains virtually invisible. As yet, no major foreign airlines have scheduled flights to Gruenberg, although many have taken advantage of the decision four years ago to open up Gruenberg's airspace to foreign flights.

====Passenger Flights====

* 75,130,000 km flown

* 5,493,000 passengers carried

* 12,972,000,000 passenger-km flown

====Freight Flights====

No reliable information on freight ton-mileage was available at the time of publication.

===RAILWAYS===

====Investment====

Gruenberg's railways are not extensive, and have also suffered from years of government under-investment, part of an attempt to nurture an automative manufacturing industry in Gruenberg. However, in The 725th Year, the Court announced plans for a new 850-km railway line linking the major cities to the West of the Aszumba and approved a payment of US $700,000,000 towards construction, after unsuccessfully lobbying for interest from foreign private sector firms. An additional $590,000,000 was to be used on the MMTN (Moroschwegen Mass Transportation Network), which would have been Gruenberg's first urban train network. However, many of the initial sections were destroyed in an orchestrated campaign of violence by Gelzien insurgents on Blood Thursday. Work was immediately suspended, and the project has since been disbanded.

All rail services in the Gelzien Nub have been suspended since The 729th Year, when rebels hijacked a train carrying military supplies to provincial barracks, and used it to destroy Ivog Central Station. Several hundred kilometres of railways were then destroyed in protest at the execution of the hijackers. However, rail services are planned to recommence by The Month of Pine of The 733rd Year thanks to extensive rebuilding.

The railways were privatised in The 723rd Year, but no serious competitor to the Court-owned Gruenberg Railways firm has as yet appeared. There have been rumours of interest from foreign firms, but the recent terrorist attacks on the railways have done little to inspire investor confidence, and as yet no foreign companies have formally approached the Court to apply for contracts.

====Passenger Journeys====

There were 72,037,195 passenger journeys in The 731st Year.

====Freight Journeys====

* 5,450,000 metric tons of goods transported.

* 5,112,000,000 net ton-kilometres travelled.
