The Socialist Workers' Republic of Cyrena is a huge, safe nation, renowned for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 692 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
The nation is ravaged by daily union strikes, the right to free speech is being drastically curtailed, the sound of wooden legs echo throughout Cyrena after the recent introduction of the Foot Tax, and all marriages are arranged by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Cyrena's national animal is the dune viper, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the cyrenian dirham.
