The Empire of Vampyro is a large nation in the International Democratic Union. It is infamous for its "dictatorship" government in the past- a form of government very rare in the IDU. The empire has recently re-introduced elections and is now classed as "democratic socialists"

Brief History

Vampyro was first colonised, in 1390, by RL Britain, on the island of Alterra.

After the colonies of Alterra (and East Alterra), Naranjas and Blaues were created. The settlers obtained more land, but did not settle on it. The land they obtained was present day Germont, Armellas, Bordellia and The Grand Basin area east of The Blood.

After the city of Vampyro was formed on the Blood River, the settlers gained their independence on the 7th of August, 1666. The colonies were turned into states, and the country was called Vampyro, named after its capital city. Armellas, Bordellia, Germont, Vampyro state and the eastern part of Grand Basin were created as states.

A time of rapid growth occured afterwards, Vampyro claimed part of the land north of Northern Blood river (in the forest), and the state of Periogan in the next 10 years, and it only took them a century to claim all their existing land. By 1800 Vampyro had reached its current extent.

Government

The government system in Vampyro, has, until recently, been a "dictatorship" without any elections. It is now a "Dictatorship" with elections. The government can be separated into three levels:

1. Federal Government
2. State Government
3. Local Government

Federal Government

The federal government is the authoritarian power in Vampyro - consisting of the President and his ministers, the Supreme Court of Vampyro is at this level, as is the police force and the education system. The Vampyrian law favours workers for the federal government, lowering their taxes and sometimes turning a blind eye to any law breaking.

State Government

Vampyro is seperated into 17 states, purely for administration purposes:

The main state, containing the capital city, is Vampyro state, the city being Vampyro City.

The state system is used for, as mentioned earlier, purely administrative purposes; for example, the state government is in charge of collecting census, or running the postal services etc. For these tasks they are given the power to tax. The state tax depends on the state, and how it is collected also depends on the state - e.g. Alterra is a commercial area, so tax is collected from purchases (7% to be exact) and Bordellia, separating the Northern states from the Central and Southern taxes by implementing a road toll (30 marks for every toll booth, 15% of all rail and ferry prices). However, the states do control the prisons, and local state laws can be implemented if the President allows it.

Local Government

The local government is the cities or towns (villages and hamlets associate themselves with a city of town). These governments are run by a mayor and his/her 5 apprentices, who are the only people in the local government who count as government workers - the others do not. The local government is in charge of things such as waste and Traffic etc.

States

Vampyro is divided up into 17 states,

Grand Basin,
Rosemond,
Platinlar,
Marya,
Ionio,
Rojos,
Garalia
and Vampyro.

The main cities of these states are named the same as the state. The states of Alterra, East Alterra, Naranjas and Blaues were originaly colonies of the settlers.

Alterra

Alterra is the most famous (and populous) state in Vampyro. Being the economic center, it is sometimes known as "the true capital".

The city of Alterra is an island in the Alterran Bay; it is the secondary capital, and the oldest city in Vampyro, and at one point was the capital. Settlers founded the city in 1390, and then started settling on the mainland in 1440. By then, Alterra was a very famous city.

Alterra is famous for itss modernisation, and its "buzz", but, other than that, it is famous for its renown as the shopping capital of Vampyro. Alterra is called the "Mother state".

East Alterra

East Alterra was, at one point, part of Alterra, until the colony could not handle so much land, in 1524.

Once named a separate colony, East Alterra became famous for its Industrialisation; here most of the factories in the Alterran colonies were located. Nowadays, East Alterra is a holiday destination - The "Party Capital" of Vampyro is East Alterra City. East Alterra itself is called the "Holiday State".

East Alterra is also home to the famous ""East Alterra University""

Naranjas

Naranjas was colonised, officially, in 1470, but some of the original Alterran settlers unofficially settled down there for one reason, oranges.

As a matter of fact, Naranjas is named after the Spanish word for oranges, as it was originally colonised for orange farming.

Naranjas city is about the only city in Naranjas state, as the rest of it is comprised of rural areas, or orange farms. Naranjas is, for obvious reasons, called "The Orange State" of Vampyro, whereas in addition, Naranjas city is also famous for its book publishing industry.

Blaues

Colonised in 1497 by Blaues city, Blaues was built upon an iron mine. The eastern part of Blaues mostly consists of mining cities and towns, whereas in the west, iron works can be found.

Running from the east to the west is the "Iron Highway", the main road system where raw iron from the east is sent to the west for manufacturing.

Due to the iron, Vampyros navy is centerd in Blaues. Blaues is called the "Iron Willed State".

Germont

Named a state after Vampyro was created as a country in 1666, Germont is mostly mountainous.

Germont City is located near the center of the state, on the Germont Plateaus - a group of plateaud mountains. Germont city is on 19 separate plateaus, all connected by bridges. Very close to Germont city, Mont Jermois can be found, the tallest mountain in Vampyro.

Germont is called "The Snowy State" due to its climate, and famous for its winter holiday locations.

Periogan

Named a state in 1705, Periogan is separated from the rest of Vampyro by the north of the Blood river. Mostly covered in forests, Vampyres are mostly found here. It is the most sparsly populated state of Vampyro - only 6.8% of Vampyrians live there, most of which live in Periogan city (also called Perrigan).

Periogan city is located where the Blood and Northern Blood meet, so most travel to the state is waterborne. Due to its large forests, most of Vampyro's paper is made there. Periogan is called the "Vampyric state",

Armellas

Named a state in 1666 when Vampyro gained its independency, Armellas is mountainous in the south, but is mostly made up of hills and valleys.

Armellas city is in one of the only flat spots in Armellas - and is important to Vampyro - as its main money printing offices are there.

Armellas has very beautiful scenery, and is the only state where "ruining the countryside" is illegal. Armellas is called the "Beautiful State".

Bordellia

Bordellia is known as the "Pitstop State", as it contains the only land route to the south from the north, and vice versa.

Bordellia is not renowned for much, except for its very good schooling.

Bordellia was named a state in 1666 along with Armellas and Germont. Bordellia city is where the country's main highways all meet.

Lilliax

Named a state in 1734, Lilliax is known as the "Suburban State", this is because it is a very suburban area - meaning big houses with big gardens in small citys and towns. Lilliax city is a very famous city due to the "Great Garden", the largest park in Vampyro.

Grand Basin

Created as a state in 1666 upon Vampyran independence, Grand Basin originally consisted only of its current eastern part, but in 1789, the western area joined the state.

Grand Basin is known as the "Farmer's State", as most of Vampyro's agriculture is based there. Grand Basin city is where the famous "Grand Basin Bridge" is, a very large bridge linking East Vampyro with West Vampyro.

Grand Basin is home to Vampyro International Airport, Vampyro's only international airport

Rosemond

Rosemond was created as a state in 1765. It is nicknamed the "Workers' State", as most of Vampyro's industry happens there. Rosemond is also famous for its rose fields.

Platinlar

Named the "Centennial State" because it was created in 1799, 100 years after Vampyro came into being as a country, Platinlar is home to Vampyro's first railway (hence its railway system is based there).

Marya

Marya, the "Starstruck State" is nicknamed so because celebrities mostly live there, in the Marya city.

Created as a state in 1767, Marya has a "complete privacy" law, which means photos cannot be taken of people without their permission, resulting in so many celebrities deciding to live there.

Ionio

Named the "Lucky State", this is where Vampyro's casinos are centered. Gambling is EXTREMELY legal here, and enjoyed this status since 1777, when the state was created.

Ionio city is known to have the worst crime in the country - which still isn't much.

Rojos

Rojos is called the "Festival State", due to its famous "Halpenio Festival" which takes place in the summer - many flock to Rojos city to take part in this.

Also, Rojos is a very cultural state, Rojos city having the largest number of ethic minorities. It was created as a state in 1778.

Garalia

Known as the "New Government State", this is where most of Vampyro's government offices and buildings are (such as prisons and research labs, etc).

Garalia city is, however, famous for its cuisine. Garalia was named a state in 1767.

Vampyro State

Vampyro State is the main state in Vampyro, being the state where the capital, Vampyro City, is located. It is known as the "Power State" for two reasons, one being the fact that it is the location of most of the governmental power (along with army barracks and airforce bases), and also due to its centralised position - Vampyro's power grid is based here, along with a vast number of power stations.

Education

Education in Vampyro is regarded as extremely important. Compulsory education is from 3 years to 17 years.

3 years - 6 years

From the age of 3 to the age of 6, the children go to nursery, here they learn their basics.

6 years - 12 years

From the age of 6 the children go to "alpha stage" schools, here they take their V.E.A.T (Vampyric Empire Alpha Test); if they pass this they can go on to the next stage, if they do not, they are to repeat the last year of Alpha stage.

12 years - 15 years

The beta stage of vampyric education. Students at this stage take their V.E.B.T's (Vampyric Empire Beta Tests) in more than one subject (they choose 5). At the end of this stage they choose 3 subjects to take at the next level.

15 years - 17 years

The Gamma stage. At this stage they take their V.E.G.T's in the 3 subjects they chose before; in this test they are given their result as a number between 0 and 500. Universities choose their students based on these results.
