Minnechusettsfornia is a strongly Liberal nation. This can be easily seen from the makeup of its senate, where left-wing parties easily hold 70% of the seats, but any traveler returning from the nation will recieve a much stronger impression just from the people on the street. The nations government has a strong record of standing up for human rights around the world with every method, economic, political, and military, at their disposal.

    Minnechusettsfornia has one of the best-maintained environments in the world, pollution is extremely low, and destruction of habitat is, at worst, cautious.  Critics argue that this is due to anti-buisness policies.  Indeed, the country is extremely strict regarding large corporations particularly.  Tight pollution controls and regulation are enforced on all corporations, and violation of either are harshly punished.  The Department of Justice places a high priority on ferreting out and eliminating corporate criminals.  This task is taken extremely seriously-the Corporate Justice division has a special forces battalion on call 24/7.
    Aside from that, 10% of the Government budget is devoted to the protection and betterment of the environment.  Cars are banned in urban areas, replaced by monorails and electrical trolleys, as well as an ancient form of transportaion known as "feet".  In the years following this law, health increased dramatically as the air in cities became cleaner.  An extensive rail system also links all cities, both large and small.

Military

    A very small portion of the budget - 4% - goes towards defense.  None of that money is permitted to be used in advertising, most particularly not aimed at children.  This is compensated for with a smaller but highly trained and equipped military.  The military took part in coalition action against the Corporate Dictatorship of Red Tide with limited success in early 2006.  Military uniforms are not in any way similar to those used by most other modern militaries - some might say they are impractical.  They consist of blue pants and shirt with an ornamental diagonal flap and buttons, and collars which also denote rank with a series of colored shapes (a reversed bronze triangle with a silver bar beside it denotes a rank of lieutenant) and blue ankle-length tails which wrap halfaway around.  Special Forces also wear blue berets. 
    The navy also has its distinctions.  The pride of the Minnechusettsfornian fleet are the trimerian Shetland battleships, which are heavily armored with two triple 18" guns, a single repeating 16" gun and two smaller guns on the two side modules for closer encounters, as well as anti-ship and land missiles.  Air cover is provided by phalanx systems and Sea Sparrow missiles.  The Navy is said to be the most powerful of any MAF branch.
    A curiosity of the MAF is its fourth branch.  This branch includes standard special-ops forces, however it also includes a number of individuals trained for a special paramilitary purpose, called mages.  Further information on army mages and their abilities is, of course, classified, but they are rarely deployed outside the homeland, and never in great or conspicuous numbers.  It is known that magic is also used by civilians, although only about 20% of the population is even aware it exists.  The state is also in no great hurry to reveal it to other nations whom it might come into conflict with.  The military also groups each special ops unit with a quasi-mage/scientist called an alchemist (also classified).
