Despite the depressing Civil War, Nemat and the greater nation are strong trade partners to this day. Racism among the greater nation has weaned over the years, though there is some slight racism among the Nemat towards the citizens of the greater nation who venture into the borders of Nemat every so often. During the early post-Civil War years, there was a growing movement to take over the greater nation and spread the religion of the Temple of the Blue Sun into the athiest country, as well as other countries. Zek Nass, while not publically disapproving of this movement, did not support it either. The older generation felt the same, as they were glad to have the peace they had, and didn't want to do anything to jeopardize it. Zek Nass's son, Vic Nass, was a public spokesperson against the movement to forcibly spread their religion. When Zek Nass finally died, and it came time for elections again, Zek Nass's grandson, Vincent Nass, was a candidate. Vincent Nass, like his father and grandfather, took the position against the forcible spread of their religion, and gained support from many of the older people. The younger generation on the other hand had not experienced the Civil War, and were interested in spreading the religion. Another candidate, Claud Temir, who had not lived to experience the Civil War either, took the position of spreading the religion, though never publically stated that it should be done by force. This position won over the younger generation, and a small percentage of the older generation, causing Claud Temir to become the next Jikad.

History

Pre-Civil War

Before the Civil War, the Nemat were an ethno-religious group within a larger nation. The Jikad, the high priest of the Temple and leader of the current nation of Nemat, was simply the high priest of the Temple during this time. The greater nation was athiest and mocked the Nemat people and their beliefs. After generations of oppression, the Nemat people finally took a stand against the greater nation. This lead to the civil war.

The Civil War

The Civil War (which lasted for just 2 years) started when a radical group within the Temple of the Blue Sun gathered military strength and attacked the capitol of the greater nation. At first the greater nation was able to keep down the radical group but the rest of the people in the Temple saw this as their chance to end their oppression. Men, women, and children all joined forces to take over the capitol. The Jikad gave the president of the greater nation an ultimatum: to give the Nemat their own nation peacefully, or be taken over by the Nemat people. The president, fearing the safety of his own people, gave into the demand and gave the Nemat people a significant ammount of land on one of the borders. Shortly after this decision, a radical within the greater nation did not agree that the president's decisions to negotiate with these "terrorists" so he plotted and carried out the assassination of The Jikad. Determined to gain their freedom and their own nation, the Council of the Blue Sun quickly nominated some candidates for the next Jikad, and the people voted for Zek Nass, the first Jikad to be High Priest and diplomatic leader of the Nemat's very own nation.

Post-Civil War

Another candidate, Claud Temir, who had not lived to experience the Civil War either, took the position of spreading the religion, though he never publically stated that it should be done by force. This position won over the younger generation, and a small percentage of the older generation, causing Claud Temir to become the next Jikad.

Time Line

After winning the Civil War, the Nemat people gave up the calendar of the greater nation, and made the calendar of their religion the primary one. The timeline begins with the creation of the Temple of the Blue Sun over 1,000 years ago. Here are some events that have occured in recent history.

1195 - Zek Nass born. 1215 - Vic Nass born. 1235 - Civil War starts, Vincent Nass born. 1237 - Civil War ends. 1252 - Claud Temir born. 1272 - Squall Temir born. 1287 - Zek Nass dies, Claud Temir elected. 1307 - Present day.

About

Name

The word Nemat is as old as the Temple of the Blue Sun, and is used in association with the ethnic group that belongs to the Temple.

People

The Nemat people typically have a light skin color, small mouths and noses, medium eyes and ears, dark hair, and a tall build around 6 feet.

Customs

It is a religious custom to bear the first child at the age of 20, though marriage typically occur as young as 15 years old. After the first child is born at the age of 20, people are encouraged to have many more children as often as they can, though it is not necessary, and not possible for some couples. Birthdays, regardless of when one was born, are held on the first day of the new year. The calander is divided into 11 30-day months, and 1 35-day month. The last 5 days of the last month are dedicated to a celebration in honor of the Blue Sun. Every fourth year, the 5th day is extended by another 6 hours where a ritual is held to sacrifice a blue eagle to the Blue Sun.

National Animal

The national animal is the blue eagle, which is indigenous and only found in this region. The blue eagle is also a prominent symbol in the Temple of the Blue Eagle.

Religion

The official religion, and the only reason the nation of Nemat even exists, is the Temple of the Blue Sun. The doctrines of the Temple guide everything from daily routine to national festivals. One of the doctrines of the Temple is to spread the religion to as many people as possible, which has been a controversial issue ever since the Civil War. It is written in the Book of the Blue Sun that a women by the name of Jett Quvar witnessed a blue star in the sky. Shortly after, blue eagles began to appear in the region, where regular eagles hadn't even indigenous. Interestingly enough, no fossils of blue eagles have been found that date older than the founding of the Temple of the Blue Sun. Jett Quvar became the first Jikad of the Temple, and is one of few woman to serve as Jikad. Her face is on the Nemat with the highest value.

Flag

The flag is a blue circle, which represents the Blue Sun, placed against a dull green background, which represents longevity. The flag is literally saying "May the Blue Sun last forever!"

Language

The official language is called Nemat, which is as ancient, if not older, than Temple of the Blue Sun. No one can say where the language officially developed, but the first members of the Temple used the language in their rituals, and it has been the official language of the Temple ever since. The alphabet is similar to English, but most of the words are different. English is the second language of the country, as English was the official language of the greater nation.

Currency

The unit of currency is the Nemat, which has the same value of the greater nation that Nemat used to be a part of. The difference with Nemat currency, is that the faces of past Jikads are stamped on the coins.

Military

One of the reforms that came due to the Civil War, was the creation of an army. A military was needed to keep the nation of Nemat safe. As a consequence, the Temple gained a military wing, which also acts as the police force. Though the military wing has become stronger since the Civil War, Nemat is not a military state, and in order to have a top position in the military, one must also have a high position in the clergy.
