Latyaq Civil War

The Latyaqi Civil War began unnexpectedly. It is currently an ongoing conflict. It is fought in Latyaq.

The Rebels are secretly being funded and roleplayed by the Blackhelm Confederacy. The Scandinvans and Bonstock are helping the Government. The leader of the rebels is Mohammed Al-Libi

Begining

The civil war began during a visit of Emperor Reginald to Latyaq. At that time several terorist groups attacked the city of Al Iskandariyah. 1 They destroyed the airbase, but Bonstock later rebuilt it, along with their own base. Fighting continued between the Scandinvans and rebels.

War

The war has become a guerilla war, with foreign troops fighting insurgents while the government tries to build up, similar to Iraq. Tactics used by the insurgents include snipers, IEDs, and suicide bombing. As the conflict continued, both the insurgents and Government found support. Bonstock gave the Latyaqis 20,000 of their soldiers 2 while Leocardia helped the rebels 3. The Bonstockians later decided that their forces were insufficient and sent another 60,000 troops to Latyaq, bringing the total to 80,000 4 Hydac offered it's support in the form of donating armored vehicles and deploying advisors to train Latyaqi troops in their use. 5

Sympathy for the government among Latyaqi citizens has greatly increased. The most commonly cited reason is the cruelty and brutality of the rebels. Atrocities commited by them include the massacre of many worshipers at a church 6 They also used Lewisite, 7 which was seen by the people as an illegal way to attack. Many of them turned on the rebels then. Almost all popular support the rebels ever enjoyed was lost. The rebels responded to this by massacring civilians, further turning the people of Latyaq, and other nations against them

Latyaqi Security Forces

At the beginning of the civil war, the Latyaqi Security Forces (LSF) was small. It only consisted of about 100 soldiers that defended the capitol building. Reforms had already been planned even before the war, that would bring troop strength to 50,000, and later to 100,000. (see Military of Latyaq for more information). The reforms began immediately, and people went to be recruited to fight the rebels. At first the people were reluctant to join. Indeed, there was some popular support for the rebels in the beginning of the war. However, after some attacks that many people felt were illegal (see above) the recruitment problem was solved. People joined the LSF much faster. The amount of LSF troops has increased rapidly. It should pass the originally planned amount soon.
