The Militocracy
The Rethast Militocracy covers all of the planet Rethan, having removed rival nations from its path in a series of bloody and costly wars. While born of violence, the Rethast Militocracy currently has no wish expand beyond its own planet until the Democratic Republic of Martoch is destroyed and the entire planet is under Rethast control.
History of the Militocracy
The Reign of Johann Sartani
Until the year 2011, the Militocracy of Rethan was known as the Empire of Rethan and the planet was known not as Rethan (to the inhabitants anyway) but as Ataster. The ruling family of Rethan were the Sartani family. They had ruled for one hundred and twenty years, and were relatively well liked for the larger portion of it. However, during the year 2010 Johann Sartani became the new emperor and instantly began a reign of terror. Thousands were taken by his secret police for being suspected of Treason.
Johann was very adept at hiding his exploits from the other nations of Ataster, and when his people began rebelling, he called on the other nations to help him suppress the riots. The combined military might of over twenty nations marched into Rethan and crushed the rebellion. Sartani once again had total control over the people, and the Rethast prayed for a saviour.
The Lentar Rebellion
Their prayers were answered when a young General, named Alaitar Lentar, gathered the Rethast army to him and plotted another rebellion. This time however, he waited until he was sure he could make his move without other nations intervening. He waited a whole year.
And in 2011, his chance came when a military parade was to march outside the Imperial Palace. Sartani himself was going to be watching. Lentar had all the soldiers switch the blanks in their guns to real rounds just before the march. At exactly 1:30 in the afternoon, Sartani appeared on his balcony, the people gathered unaware of what was going to happen, and the march began.
At his command, the Rethast soldiers turned and charged the Imperial Palace guard. Caught unprepared and unarmed, the guard were quickly killed and Sartani was trapped in his office. He committed suicide with a letter opener before the rebels could reach him.
The Lentar Family from 2011-2020
The international community was appalled at the rebellion and would not listen to Alaitar’s explanations. They did nothing however, the most severe punishment being placing embargoes on Rethan.
For nine years, Alaitar Lentar ruled the people of Rethan fairly, but when he saw the military build up of the other nations on his borders in 2019, he began to fear for his country’s security. Immediately, Lentar began a massive build up of the Rethast Armed forces. Weapons were pumped out of the factories at almost godly rates and recruitment offices were packed with young Rethast eager to fight. They were ready for any attack.
But in 2020, Alaitar Lentar died from cancer. The Rethast suffered a tremendous blow to morale, and feared an attack from the other nations in their moment of weakness.
