Evangelion Combat Units
Evangelion, Evangelions, or simply Evas, are mechas. They are not simply mechanical giant robots, but are biomechanical and cybernetic with many biological components co-existing with a substantial mechanical infrastructure. Their flesh is rarely seen, however, since they are covered in flexible polymer sheeting, armor plating, and restraints. They are humanoid figures several stories in height, with fearsome, beast-like masks. The Evas were created by Redmire for the apparent purpose of defending Walled City of Sanctuary Fortress (Redmire's Capital City).
Units currently active are 01, 02, and 03.They require massive amounts of power provided by either a massive cable called an umbilical cable or internal and external batteries. They are intended to be controlled by direct nerve impulses from the pilot.
The height of the Eva units changes from scene to scene, as one can see by comparing them to the buildings of Sanctuary Fortress: sometime they are large enough to step over them, and other times they are far shorter (Although some of the buildings of Sanctuary Fortress can retract into the Geofront which may explain the inconsistencies).Although the Redmire government has not given an official statement their height varies between roughly 40 and 200 meters (130 to 650 feet).
