Information

Paulus is the second son of Marcus Dimwit, the great leader who led Corvos to independence, and is revered and respected as the true Iron-Fisted People's Dictator.

However, Paulus was never destined to succeed him. Marcus died under mysterious circumstances during the recent guerrilla war against the Deianiran invaders, and his elder brother, Gregorius, was assassinated in a hotel bombing whilst negotiating peace with Deianira. It is widely believed that Paulus, who hated the peace terms, masterminded the bombing in order to disrupt negotiations and take power, but it has never been proven.

In any case, since his accession as Iron-Fisted People’s Dictator, Paulus has been fighting a civil war against the separatist, Deianiran puppet state of the Wathorn Democratic Republic. Furthermore, the return of his brother Kilius from imprisonment in Deianira had introduced a new faction into the civil war, with Kilius openly condemning his Paulus’ actions. Kilius was recently defeated, having not gained much support to counter Paulus. Now, Paulus has to watch the moves of his much more powerful brother, Julius, to see whether he will join Paulus, or make a move for power.

Some former ally nations have recently withdrawn support from the Paulist regime, citing 'gross human rights abuses' and a lack of democracy as reasons. This has hurt Paulus, but it is some comfort that his main enemy, the Wathorn republic, still remains unrecognised by all except Deianira.

Paulus as a Man

Paulus grew up wanting to emulate his father, the great Iron-Fisted People’s Dictator. He adopted his violent rhetoric, his policies, and even tried to style himself after his father. But instead, Paulus was shunned, his elder brother, Gregorius, and his younger brother, Octavius, winning their father’s heart.

Paulus, as a result, is a horribly bitter and twisted man, grown up to be a vastly radicalized version of his father. He despises democracy, and believes wholeheartedly in the destiny of the Dimwit family to rule Corvos. He is stubborn, belligerent and devious, feared by all his siblings. However, he hides this all under a false show of confidence, exuding a charisma that has won over crowds of people and guaranteed him great support in the civil war. This showed in the vast amount of support that Paulus received in comparison to his brother, Kilius, who was easily defeated as a result. Though Julius still remains a danger, Paulus' popularity grows as quickly the Wathorn republic's popularity declines.
