Overview
The Kingdom of Portrigh is a small, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its intelligent population of 14 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Social Welfare, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 31%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Basket Weaving, Information Technology, and Uranium Mining industries.
All tariffs have been abolished, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, and high-income earners pay a 100% tax rate. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare.
Portrigh's national animal is the Sheep and its currency is the Cullin.
