Economy
Being a large coastal harbour, Overseas Shipping and Handling, and Ship Maintenance forms the basis of the local economy. Commercial Fishing and Farming are also large money spinners in the area, although the formerly large seams of coal in the region are now just about exhausted through intensive mining. There are some confirmed moderate copper and uranium seams nearby but these have remained undeveloped, and the City is instead looking to attract businesses and industries of a cleaner and more modern nature. Tourism is also on the rise after both an extensive effort to restore the surviving Seventeenth century buildings that were part of the original colony that first settled on the Mainland in 1656, and also for the magnificent opportunities for various marine sports in the nearby bay and the open ocean.
