Jjiria is a Baranxtuan province. It is one of the few provinces dominated by one of the indigenous peoples, which can be attributed to its long standing special status among all other provinces - until 1906, it was a nominally independent kingdom until it was finally incorporated to Baranxtu as an autonomous province. It was the only autonomous province of Baranxtu until 2006, when Qiru received the same status.
Name
The etymology of Jjiria is obscure. The Baranxeï name is derived from the Jjirian Ñirul which in turn hails from Akes Mersanint Anier, but the source of this name is unknown, although a relation to the name of the province's capital, Ansa, is suggested.
One theory for the origin of Anier links it to an Ancient Masenar word *onnare, meaning sands.

</div>The flag of Jjiria is based on a traditional Jjirian pattern for the ceremonial clothes of kings. It is interpreted as symbolizing the unity of the Heavens, the Earth and the Underworld.
It is the only flag of a Baranxtuan province that is square.
