The tenth general election was held on 24 October 2006. The outgoing Prime Minister was Lord Morrissey.

There were 577,123,922 valid votes cast.
The Social Democratic-Green alliance won 140 seats; the Liberal-Conservative alliance won 59. The Liberal Democrats won nineteen. Lord Hartley succeeded Lord Morrissey as Prime Minister.
This was the last general election to be contested by the Liberal and Conservative parties separately, who merged the day following the general election. Results for both parties are combined. The parties had fared very badly, combined, winning fewer seats than the Liberal Party had the previous general election.
