Background
When President Adree Vorez started the "Liberal Reforms" in 2005 (see Adree Vorez speach to Parliament 13 January 2005), many members of the leading Zaaherland Republican Party (ZRP) left the Party and formed the Zaaherland National Democratic Party (ZNDP). The old party then renamed itself to National Republican Party of Zaaherland (NRP) and called on re-elections.
The Government increase the Voting Areas and Mandates in Parliament from 170 to 255.
The General Elections where to held on the 9 oktober 2005
Results
All Voting Stations closed at 21.00 local time. 255 Voting Areas and 255 Members of Parliament elected. Final Results where given at 00.00 local time:
- National Republican Party of Zaaherland (NRP) 129 (52,8%)
- Progressive Independent Party (PiP) 81 (28,7%)
- Democratic Union Party (DUP) 34 (10,3%)
- Zaaherland National Democratic Party (ZNDP) 11 (8,2%)
