Historians divide the history of mainland Acelinia into 6 "Ages." Here is a brief description of each:

Age of Nomads Ends c. 10,000 BCE Loose tribes of Homo sapiens and early Homo sapiens sapiens hunt and gather their food. They use stone and bone tools and may settle in caves or small shelters for a season at a time if the hunting is good. All that is known about this age has been discovered through archaeology.

Age of Villagers c. 10,000 BCE- c. 5,000 BCE The beginning of agriculture causes the formation of villages. Although there are occasional struggles between villages for control of fertile land, there aren't any true wars. Polytheistic beliefs develop separately in different regions. Most villages have some sort of government, mostly determined by which family owns the best farmland. Some of the more advanced villages and clans keep records using various pictographic languages, only a few of which can be deciphered by today's historians. Most information about this age is known through archaeology.

Age of Warriors c. 5,000 BCE- 536 CE Village-based clans fight constant wars, mostly over land. The most vicious fighting is between the western patriarchal clans and the eastern matriarchal clans. One of the most powerful clans is the eastern Aceline clan. All clans are generally unaware of what is happening in the world at large, mostly because of the communication problems. Once the Laatzonians (correct word?) try to take over, but because of their poor leadership they fail to hold the land for long.

Age of Conquerors 536 CE-821 CE This age is also called "The Akaeian Occupation." Akaeian forces take control of the land of all the clans. There is an alliance of western clans and an alliance of eastern clans, but they get in the way of each other. Akaeia forces a single government upon the clans, and calls the land "Acelinia" because of the Aceline clan. In 561 CE, Akaeia signs the Bill of Salutary Neglect and allows the clans to elect a governor. There are several governors, some male and some female, who serve life terms. Akaeia also creates an elected Parliament. The Easterners and Westerners become 2 political parties. Over time, Akaeia pays less attention to Acelinia. In 821 CE, Akaeia is dealing with the Laatzonians and pirates, so the Acelinian Parliament seizes the chance for independence. They write a petition and threaten war if Akaeia will not give Acelinia independence. Not wanting to create another war, Akaiea gives in.

Age of Queens 821 CE- 1621 CE Since Parliament was created by Akaeia without the consent of the Acelinian people, they organize a vote among the still-present clan heads to decide how to proceed. Lady Magdalena Dorothea Aceline gains the overwhelming victory and becomes the first monarch. She becomes known as Lena the Just, as she strives to be fair to all clans and prevents violence against innocent Akaeian settlers. Her daughter, Elizabeth Ashmore Aceline, follows in her footsteps. There are kind and just queens for a few centuries, but their morals begin to deteriorate. Parliament has only limited power. In 1599, Ella Florence Aceline gains the throne and marries John Sargent Worthen, who wooed her in order to get power. Over the next three years, he restricts her power. In 1603, Queen Ella Florence dies. She was most likely poisoned by her husband or one of his supporters. During the next 17 years, Revered Consort John Sargent makes himself "King" and restricts the rights of all easterners, particularly women. When, in 1621, he attempts to send all eastern members of Parliament to prison for "sedition," the people are outraged. Beginning in the far east, they start a strike that eventually spreads across the whole nation. The guards of the prison allow the eastern leaders to go free and Parliament abolishes the monarchy style of government. John Sargent Worthen is hanged and his closest supporters tried and mostly given life sentences of hard labor.

Age of Legislators 1622 CE- present This is the current state of government. A Constituation was written, giving power to the Parliament. The legislators elect one of their colleagues to be Speaker for the Parliament. The current Speaker is Ms. Lydia Dunne. The people elect justices to the High Court, which can overrule any law passed by Parliament if it is judged unconstitutional.
