Local clubs have played each other in various levels of organization for centuries, but our modern era has codified the rules and set up a league consisting teams representing of Adam Island's largest and most historical cities.

The AIBL suspended play at the beginning of the Rat Flu outbreak in 2004. With most of the players and officials dead and many of the stadiums destroyed, the AIBL completely reformed in 2006.

Organization

Each team is owned independently and purchases player contracts, secures stadium use, and manages television and radio contracts for its own team. There are 24 minor league teams, each affiliated with a major league team, that the AIBL team can use to store developing talent. This prevents teams from crowding their rosters with less-deserving players for fear of another team snatching them before the talent is developed.
