The Free Land of Athanesia is a small, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 7 million (and growing) are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to a certain amount.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 46%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.
