Papistikas was born in Medomanto, in the island province of Acqua Verdi, in May 1938. She completed her Master's of Law at National University in Timiocato in 1954 and immediately moved into politics for the Liberal Party (now the Social Coalition). She was elevated to party leader after a bitter leadership battle in late 1976 and subsequently won the federal general election of 1977 with a slight majority.
She also attempted to win the leadership of the party (now the PSC) in 2004, but lost to Fernando Chiovitti. Following this loss she has started touring the world as a motivational speaker for women and feminist thought.
