Bakirdzis is the only island in Hipolis to be culturally distinct from the nation as a whole. The island's history is somewhat murky. Because of its tiny size, there were only a few records, few of which survive. However, it is clear that the island's population is of Arabic stock, has a history of unusually egalitarian relations between the sexes, and historically practiced a sort of unspecified monotheism until fairly recently. Until 2006, the island was sovereign and was frequently at odds with Hipolis. However, in 2006, negotiations ended the historical dispute and Bakirdzis was allowed to enter the Commonwealth.
