The BNP is currently the biggest party in the Lower House of the Isles Parliament in Bostopia, and therefore, makes up the Government.
The BNP was formed in 1830, when the Emperor decreed that political parties were to be allowed in Bostopia - though the Government would have very little power - in order to answer for the large Nationalist, Conservative tendencies of Bostopia. Facing no real opposition, the BNP has been the official government since the first elections in May of 1830. The only place the BNP failed to gain real support was in Laquar State, which always returned Bostopian Socialist Party MP's.
However, in 2007, following Emperor Boston having to enter the WorldVision Song Contest himself to stop a song by the Bostopian Socialist Party proclaiming "Dr.Vlad's greatness" being Bostopia's official entry, he declared all political parties in Bostopia null and void, with the exception of the Bostopian National Party, and the Imperial Party of Bostopia, which he heads.
Some sections of the BNP broke away to form the National Party of Bostopia, and the Fenton State Bostopian National Party (the latter only standing in state elections in Fenton State) though it has been alleged the Emperor forced the split to satisfy international onlookers that Bostopia was home to a due democratic system.
