Cachettian referendum on the Conargo, 2007

On June 17, 2007, Cachette de Lions is holding a referendum on whether to keep the Lura as the currency of the nation, or to switch over to the International Democratic Union's regional currency, the Conargo. It was a manifesto commitment of the Liberal Party in the parliamentary elections two months earlier.

The Liberal Party campaigned for the yes vote, whereas the Conservative People's Party was strongly against the proposals, saying they were 'yet another threat to national sovereignty'. The Social Democrats initially were going to remain neutral, but petitions from members made it join the 'No' side, along with the Conservatives, in the hope of defeating the government. However this seems unlikely as the currency already had widespread popular support, the reason the Liberals included it in their manifesto.
