The Constitutional Monarchy of Charred Knights

Charred Knights Coat of Arms, more widely regarded as 'Arren's Seal'

Motto

The Motto of The Constitutional Monarchy of Charred Knights is:
“En Rex rigis Charles alter Nos Fides”.
Which translates from Latin (the noble language), into:
“In King Charles II We Trust”.
It was changed to this from, “Cooked Knights and lots of Dragons”; a saying that originated from ‘The Rush’; this was the general phrase the people used to describe the region. It was made the Motto of Charred Knights by the first King Arren Barker.
The Decision to change the motto came in 1982, after King Charles II lead the Kingdom to great success in all he proposed. King Charles II enjoys enormous support among the citizens of Charred Knights. En Rex rigis Charles alter Nos Fides” Takes pride of place of the Charred Knights Coat of Arms.

Currency

Charred Knights currency is the Dragon Scale. In the Nations early years the currency was actual Dragon Scales, but this became too costly to maintain, and a metal version has since been released.

History

Early History:(1800 – 1840)

In the early 1800s (It is thought to be between 1800-1810) gold mining Baron Arren Barker, situated a mining colony (Imbottivo) in what was to become the Kingdom of Charred Knights; on a rumor that there was large gold deposits. While the exact time that he spent searching for this gold is unknown, it is known that he found only very small veins of the precious metal. During his search however, he found what he though was large coloured gems. It was only after sending scouts into the mountains areas to the north, who came back with reports more ‘gems’, masses of old bones, and what looked like a giant egg; that Arren began to suspect the true nature of the large ‘gems’. Arren himself went into the same mountains areas along with armed guards some time later to discover that the ‘gems’ were indeed Dragon Scales; he also was the first to witness a Dragon, which confirmed his theory.

While having never seen them before, Arren knew that Dragon Scales were considered valuable in many regions, and so began to collect and export them for use in jewelry and the creation of highly sought after Scale armor.

This began ‘The Rush’, during which another 4 colonies were founded (Imbrattai, Immansk, Lectamai and Lingje), they were founded during 1815-1816. Arren Barker became hugely rich. Unfortunately ground lying supplies of Dragon Scales were soon completely collected; men began hunting down the Dragons. It is from this that the name ‘Charred Knights’ comes. The Dragons did not die easily.

Exact information on this period is hazy but, the rush slowed significantly as the dragon population dwindled and knights to hunt the Dragons became hard to find. Seeing this happen, and understanding that it was in his interests to ensure that the Dragons were not hunted into extinction Arren used his great influence, money and power to buy and take great swaths of land. Within these lands the hunting of Dragons was made punishable by death; under Arren’s command this was brutally enforced. This was all completed from 1818 to 1822. During ‘The Rush’ Dragon Scales became as cheap as common glass, yet stayed incredibly popular. As Arren gained control of his lands and Dragon hunting was stopped; and virtually all Dragon Scale exports were blocked, the price inflated to ridiculous levels. At one point it reached 5 times the price of gold. Arren controlled 95% of the industry.

On the 28 of June, 1825 Arren Barker announced himself King, and named his Kingdom ‘Charred Knights’. He named Imbottivo the capital, and placed one of The Great Families in control of the areas around each of the other major towns. - The Moody Family was given Imbrattai to govern. - The Rivault Family was given Immansk to govern. - The Taylor Family was given Lectamai to govern. - The Agavian Family was given Lingje to govern. Every year the 28 of June is celebrated as the ‘First Day’.

Over the next 15 years Arren worked to ensure that the only Dragon Scales collected and exported came off the ground, and that the Dragon population returned to natural levels. But did not open up large scale exports of Dragon Scales; instead making the small Scales that come from around the neck of the Dragon into a Kingdom wide currency. Only the large Scales from the belly of the Dragons were exported. This was the beginning of what was to become The Constitutional Monarchy of Charred Knights.
