The Holy Republic of Divinitrix

The Theocracy of Divinitrix is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed population of 192 million are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, moralistic morass -- juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 38%. A substantial private sector is led by the Furniture Restoration industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Woodchip Exports.

Women earn less than half the salary of men if they can even find a job, newborns are being raised as mindless killing machines, graffiti artists spend lengthy periods of time in jail, and all alcohol is banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Divinitrix's national animal is the demi-god, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the drachma.

Divinitrix and the UN

Divinitrix became a United Nations member shortly after the coming to power of Pontifax Carolus IV, succeeding the diplomatic ventures of Pontifax Dennus II. There was a long debate over the allowance of Divinitrix, a spiritually-revolving nation, into the diplomatic powers that make up the United Nations, but the Pontifax managed to steer things in favour of Divinitrix and, in the end, Divinitrix became a UN member.

Divinitin

The official Divinitrician language is Divinitin, a language with no clear roots in linguistic history. Examples of Divinitin include:

  • Hello = 'Hadshi
  • My name is... = Ma neuma ... sis.
  • Where is... ? = Uea ... sis?
  • Who are you? = Usu du sid?

Divinitrician Catholicism

This spin-off of standard Catholicism forms the base of the Divinitrician government, and, indeed the leader of Divinitrix, the effective Pope of this religion, the Pontifax. Divinitrician Catholicism is based on the concept of the Quintune Spirit (The Governor, the Commander, the Persuador, the Messenger and the Onlooker) and the Ultimate God, crucified and resurrected, immortal forever more. Divinitrician Catholic (DivCatholic) churches exist only in Divinitrix at the moment, though Divinitrician emmigrants may build DivCatholic churches later on.
