The Emperor (天皇 tennō, literally "heavenly sovereign") is the constitutionally recognized source of all political power in Adoki. He is the representative of Adoki unity and nationhood and the head of the imperial family. In the present state of affairs, he maintains officially absolute power while presiding over a form of corporative state where democratically elected officials, a powerful aristocracy, and the military all share power with various interest groups. However, under pressure from the Resurgent Dream and as part of negotiations for a possible Danaan Commonwealth, Adoki has recently moved towards democratic reforms.

In addition to his official power as an actual imperial ruler, the Emperor serves as a sort of supreme-rank cleric with many ceremonial powers around which the practice of the Shinto faith in Adoki largely revolves. In Adoki, the idea of Arahitogami is still strong and the Emperor is regarded as literally divine, a decendant of gods.

The current Emperor is Emperor Nakamikado, referred to in Adoki as "His Imperial Majesty" (Tennō Heika, 天皇陛下) because calling him by his given name is considered disrespectful. He resides in Anenokoji Palace.
