Fraternity Sealines came into being during the height of tensions between Ariddia and West Ariddia, at a time when the former was still highly reluctant to recognise the sovereignty of the latter. Both governments did, however, agree to strict rules regarding travel between the two States. It was decided that travel would be by sea, that the entry ports would by Badrège-sur-Mer (in Ariddia) and Wolleyom (in West Ariddia), and that a specific company would be established to ferry people from one to the other.

Fraternity Sealines was jointly operated by the two sides, and ferried both tourists and citizens of one State wishing to permanently settle in the other. Each FS boat also carried armed soldiers from both sides, which must have made the trip rather unnerving for passengers. For a long time, it was illegal to travel from one country to the other by any other means than though Fraternity Sealines.

The company still operates today, but tensions have significantly decreased, and there are no longer any armed soldiers aboard its vessels. Nor is it now the sole legal way to get from Ariddia to West Ariddia or vice-versa. The company is split into an Ariddian branch and a West Ariddian branch, each with its own boats, and the socio-economic laws of its home nation. Only in name and memory does it truly remain a unified company.
