Introduction

The Gama Class Explorer is the successor to the Ericson Class Science Vessel, and is named after explorer Vasco da Gama It features a pop-out sensor module, based on the Delta type but much more advanced, located on the ventral side. It is armed with a standard set of Black Talon Phaser banks and is reportedly capable of warp 9 or more. The following ships have been built and commissioned for space duty:

• PHX "Piccard" S.S. #0785 (named for Jacques Piccard not that star trek guy!!!)
• PHX "Zarya" S.S. #0786
• PHX "Xenon" S.S. #0787
• PHX "Argon" S.S. #0788
• PHX "Krypton" S.S. #0789 (named for the noble gas, not the Superman homeworld)
• PHX "Radon" S.S. #0790
• PHX "Neon" S.S. #0791
• SS #0792 is being refitted as an experimental frigate(see below) after its sensor array was destroyed by an unstable plasma torpedo that was mis-fired from a Knight Class Destroyer which was docked at the same starbase where #0792 was being built. Rather than build a new, expenisve lower sensor array, more phaser arrays and torpedo tubes will be added. Since it will be a frigate, it will most likely undergo a name and/or number change.
