Biography

Early political career

As I told you once before, Viceroy, you serve yourselves best when you serve me.

Naal joined the Imperial Parliament as a junior trade officer, and soon enough, saw an opportunity for promotion. The SBG corporation was being reviewed by the Parliament for expulsion, and the verdict happened to depend on the testimonial of Naal. Naal supported the expulsion, citing "malicious disregard of profit" and "charitable donations lacking discernible reward". The resulting expulsion of SBG voided its CEO's position in the Imperial Courts, and was in need of replacement. Naal quickly filled the role.

By 1781 , Naal served as the first Oubanarian President of Aaronia, and as the first to try the new Senate system. He implored the Senate to intervene when the Synide Terrorist movement began attacking Imperial transports carrying precious Medical Supplies. Naal demanded the Imperial Armies be allowed to increase its size via concription, though he secretly met with Senator Nouvrah Al-Katair to bring a more decisive end to the front. Naal was pressured into giving Al-Katair the name of the location where a conference was to be held between Synide and Aaronian Representatives.

Naal himself joined the negotiating team in Synide though the STM, aware of Al-Katair’s plan to attack their forces, sabotaged the Senator's fleet. Aggressive negotiations broke out in Synide , during which Naal commanded his bodyguards to open fire without specifying the enemy. Dazaki Master Jelan Nerat was gunned down by Naal's forces, though the President demanded the surviving Dazaki Knights help him to his ship.

Unfortunately for Naal, his transport was destroyed, forcing him to tag along with the Dazaki as they battled STM forces in what became known as the Synide Terrorist War. Gelan Naal was eventually escorted back to Portaños in the company of Jeru Odid’nae prior to STM’s defeat. Despite this encounter, Naal would afterwards deny he had ever seen Dazaki in action.

For his dubious role in the conflict, Naal became Acting Emperor of Synide , though he was still restrained by the Senate. Naal was contacted by the mysterious Crime Lord, who promised to make Naal the sole leader of the

Blockade of Tzerakis

Naal blockaded Tzerakis from trade routes, with the official reason being that the President was disgruntled by Outer region trade route taxation.

Naal told the Senate to kill the Synide Ambassadors who tried an oppose the move, and Naal destroyed their ship and released toxic gas into the conference chamber. However, the two Ambassadors managed to escape, but Naal decided to keep this secret from the Senate for the time being, as he was concerned over the legality of actually invading of a region. Naal assured his vice President he would "make it legal". Naal was smug when talking with the Leader of Synide, telling him he knew nothing of any ambassadors. Gilson told Naal he had gone too far before ending the transmission. Naal ordered his chief of staff to find the missing ambassadors, but the Imperial bodyguards were unable to. The invasion was well-organized, and the region was fully conquered within the day. President Naal and Emperor Simon Gilson the 1st entered Tzerakis City with their troops and Naal received word from his Vice that they had captured the Synide Leader. Naal proudly proclaimed victory and marched into the palace.

The outraged Senator Kiut Harried demanded how Naal planned to explain this invasion to the Senate, to which Naal replied he and the Syndie King would a sign a treaty to legitimize the occupation. The Leader quickly told the President he would not cooperate, but Naal was not impressed, informing him that the suffering of his people would persuade him to see Naal’s point of view. The King was marched off to a detention camp, but on his way there was rescued by Terrorists , who managed to get him out of the country and past the blockade. Naal was now forced to inform the Imperial Senate, who were not pleased with latest events.

Naal quickly secured the country , with only the "primitives" eluding him. He set himself up in taunting Governor Harried from his throne. He soon grew tired of the Governor's protests however, and informed him he would die much sooner than his people. After unsuccessfully pleading for intervention by some of thr Senate , the King of Synide called for the expulsion of the Senate , who was unable to outtalk Naal. However the Senate did not listen to those who were invading.

Despite this, the Senate still would not take action, and the King of Synide returned home, vowing to liberate his new Region from Imperial control or die trying. Naal reported his success to the senate, who were pleased, he told the Senators that his Scotllian King friend was coming to join him. As King Peter arrived, Naal detected the Syndie King's ship and tracked it to the coast of Iridon. He reported this to the senate , who werre wary of the King's more aggressive motives. Naal next detected the assembled army of Synidese in the swamps and dispatched his personal army and a large majority of the Imperial army to crush the them, dismissing them as primitives.

Naal remained in the throne room with King Peter and Simon Gilson 1st . Gilson left to deal with the Synide Rebels as Naal became concerned the battle was taking place far too close to him. The King was able to work his way into the palace, before being captured and marched before the President. Naal ordered her to sign the treaty

Battles of Tzer

After years in the senate Naal still maintained control over the Empire , although several of his associates were killed in the Blockade of Tzerakis. Naal then instructed the Senate to join the Scotllian Alliance which wished to secede from the Babylonian Plateau. But they would only agree to join the Alliance under one condition: the death of the Synide Leader as revenge for his capture ten years prior. The leader of the Alliance , King Peter had promised him this, so he hired a bounty hunter to kill the Leader with his bounty hunter companion, Much to Naal's dismay, they both failed. Naal saw his chance for revenge and was delighted when the former King was sentenced to death and he would be there to witness it. To his fury, he escaped once again with the aid of over 200 rebels and the New Synidese army and Naal was barely able to flee for his own life in the melee between Syndiese, SImonvian, Scotllian and Imperial forces. The War had begun, and Naal suddenly found himself preparing his armada for war. Naal was a businessperson, not a commander, but there was no way he could break his ties with the Alliance without losing his life.

Due to the stress of war, the wrinkles on Naal's face became more severe than most Aaronian at the young age of 67.

Near the end of the War, Naal was trapped in his personal redoubt in Scotllia, quickly being advanced upon by Synide and its commanders. Though the rebel forces managed to penetrate the fort, Naal was able to narrowly escape to a battleship of the coast.

Naal also found himself at odds with Army Leader General Khurohs. When the two first met in Simonvia , Naal viewed Khurohs as just another disposable commander, which nearly caused an infuriated Khurohs to kill him on several occasions. However the Senate’s insistence that Naal remain in office largely shielded him from the General's wrath. Naal doubted the General's abilities, particularly after the death of 3 Vice Presidents, and the escape of the Synide Leader 4 times. Naal brought up his concerns in front of the command Council, but was dismissed by Khurohs .

Shortly after, he and the rest of the command Council were moved to Simonvia by General Khurohs , where he later sent his new deputy Thrad Reav, to kill them as part of his master plan. Gelan Naal successfully pleaded for his life before the war mongering fools. He attempted to reason with Reav , demanding , "The war is over! Synide has promised us peace; we only want…" He never finished his final sentence, as he was stopped mid sentacnce by the rescue squad sent by Barron Aaron Spence the 3rd.

Controversy

Naal was alleged to be having an affair with Laura Brath, who,, just before the start of the War, released an unauthorized biography of Naal , entitled Naal On Top. It spent at least several months as a top-ten bestseller, and its sales may have increased due to its subject's involvement in the war.

Personality and traits

Naal was proud, highly concerned for his own welfare, and often trying to shift blame onto others. He had no qualms about exploiting other members of the community for the love of money ;rather, he encouraged it. He grew increasingly impatient over the years, often sacrificing tact for speed. His personality grated against other senior members of the Alliance , namely General Khurohs , who, unlike Naal, was a vicious, strategically minded brave general with a sense of authority.

Naal was skilled in the political arena, often discouraging an opponent with a series of baseless, condescending assurances. These skills carried over to his role as President, where he was constantly in the position of having to pacify an employee, client or opponent.
