The Office of Governor-General is the most senior position in all of The Serene^Union,the individual being both Head of State, and Head of Government. The Office is the supreme force of The Aengelistoria Dominica Council and at the forefront of all legislation pondered and passed.
Full title [Official]:- Governor-General of the Serene^Union and the united provinces therein.
Preferred shortened term:- Governor-General of the Serene^Union.
Conventional shortened form/local preference:- Governor-General.
The title has not always been in existance and became only recognised at the formation of the Serene^Union itself, after the provinces previously ruled from each respective capital unified to transfer sovereignity to a central governmental structure. At such time intense debate was focused upon the name and style of executive head, with multiple ideas put forward ranging from a fully-fledged ogliarchy to sole president in a federal system.
However in times passed, the people of Kaenei had been united beneath the banner of the Caelistis Gens Empire; ruled by a supreme Emperor and consequently an absolute monarchy and rigid style of Goverment. It was thusly decided in part as tribute to centuries passed and to ensure a link remained tangible to the beginning of the great displacement that the position of a supreme Monarch would be created.
All were aware that the line of ascension had long since been broken, and that none could rightfully ascend to the crown whilst the Aengelistoria Dominica themselves had no true way to verify the validity of any would-be ruler. Consequently it was decided that the office of Governor-General would be created to fulfil the condition; to rule in name of a monarch almost certain never to ascend, beneath a theoretical superior but essentially answerable to none.
The Governor-General is the supreme voice of Kaenei, in decision making and consideration- The Aengelistoria Dominica in turn answer to the Office and in conjunction with the lesser though powerful entity of the Overseer Aengelis hold final veto over all legislation. Originally the post of Governor-General was cyclical, passing into each Supreme Overseer on the Council in five year terms; however recent tragedy involving one former Minister Killthanus led to a change in legislation and the current holder of office, one Sophia Byzainti has no such limitation on her term in power.
