The Green Party of Niploma (often named Greens or Green Party) is the official continuation of the succesful Ecological Foundation Party. When the People's Coalition split in June 2006 the Greens exited as the succend largest political groping (largest being the Social-Democratic Party of Niploma).

Leadership

The popular but politically weakened Éibhear Elwes elected himself as leader and appointed Ruth Nolan, often known as the 'First Lady of Green Politics' as a co-head representative. In practise, the party is under joint leadership. There was reason for the quick and un-democratic placements - Niploma was heading into another general election and all parties needed quick stability. Elwes also hinted at the creation of a 'Council' to discuss political matters and policies. In addition Nolan called for a 'Young Niploma Greens' movement to involve young people in politics.

Policies

Obviously, the Green Party is most concerned with enviromentalism. The party is a firm believer that climate change is the biggest threat in the world. When in coalition in the previous Government Elwes forced then PM Torin to push enviromental spending sky-high. Indeed, and with thanks to Elwes diplomacy, enviromental spending hit 18% at its peak - spending that angered less sympathetic political groupings.

It is the Greens social views that tell more about their politics. They have been seen as a 'feel good' political movement by pushing for ideals such as grassroots democracy, nuclear disamanent, lower voting ages, transfer to the STV voting system, drug legalisation, rehibilitation, pro-choice abortion stances and the general peace movement. However, Elwes has been criticised as during the previous Government Coalition he stood idle as the Social-Democratic Party of Niploma (then known as SIP) was almsot always against most of the Greens social views. In response ELwes left the party but his stance appears weaker for he failed to fight for his views.

Their general economics seem to favour a free-market economy but where regulations are put on the amount of carbon and various other emissions. This is similiar to the Liberal-Gaelic Alliance, the Social-Democratic Party of Niploma and to lesser extents the Niplomian Labour Party and the Libertarian Reform Party.

In terms of the Southern Seperatist Movement the Greens are mostly centrist. They do, however, agree with the current Southern Niploma Assembly.

Elections, Peformance and likelyhood of Governance

The Greens have only been created and therefore hard to judge their power and status. Their previous incarnation (Ecologial Foundation Party) fared exceedingly well in elections gaining up to 18% of support. However, with the Libertarian Reform Party seeking more votes, the public apathy increasing, the Liberal-Gaelic Alliance as a political platform and Elwes failure to push social issues in Government all could result in the Greens fairing less well in the upcoming election.

The Greens have already proved that they are happy to join in alliances. Possible parties they could join with include Niplomian Labour Party, Liberal-Gaelic Alliance and, to a lesser extent, the Libertarian Reform Party.
