Brief Overview

Until near the end of the Free Zone Wars, all of space was thought to be within the Cyclopean Nebula that the Human and Culta-Gen species inhabited. Only after the devastation wrought by that war did these peoples find the universe outside their nebula and truly expand to control their current territory.

Overview of the history of the Armed Republic

The history of the Armed Republic really starts with its precursor, the Free Zone Alliance. This Alliance started after the majority of Human and Culta-Gen nations agreed to form a unified nation to protect the rights of all the people in the civilized territories. The Alliance moved to encompass all Culta-Gen and Human territory and peoples. This led to the Organization for Indipendent Peoples, which was formed by all those not willing to be under the Alliance's control. With both sides at odds, a a war was inevitible.

The Free Zone War caused the destruction of millions of lives and trillions in damage. Near the end, and organization calling itself Entropy's Acceleration starts to destroy anything and everything. Both sides of the war stop and work together to remove themselves from the nebula. They fight back the Entropists' advances and are able to escape and create new colonies. The Entropists are never heard from but rumors continually persist that they were able to get past the blockade set up by the military and are at large amongst known space.

The new colonies create the Armed Republic of the Serene Death and expand into many sectors of space. Over time many small revolts and wars are fought, but in the end the Armed Republic always prevails. The discovery of other extragalactic nations has made some nervous about invasion (especially after the Republic Conflict) and others excited about trade. It is a time of chaos and change in the Serene Death.

Major Events

These are events which changed the face of the Armed Republic since its inception. They mainly deal with cultural, governmental, or economic changes as well as major power struggles within the country.

The Theocracy of Dunwyl

Dynba and the Followers

In the latter half of the 2nd Century AR, a group of religeous followers of the Zaiqu religion purchased the rights to colonize the system Dynba, which was first mapped by their founder a century before who claimed it to be the promised land for their people. After the purchase, the Followers of Dynba (as they called themselves) were offered the services of several groups to explore the system while several planetforming corperations approached them with deals on creating sutable homes for the pilgrims. Rather than allow non-believers to go to their holy land, the Followers combined all their wealth and used it to buy a station from which they would live while the terraforming process took place. While final preparations for the transport of the station were taking place (including the adding of a destroyer-class hyperdrive to the structure), the Follwers sent out explorers, who they called their Los (angels) to explore the system and find out as much as they could about the new system.

Timeline

Note:Times in BR are years Before the Armed Republic was founded. The rest of the times are in AR, which years is After the Armed Republic was founded.

100-150 BR Human and Culta-Gen societies, already spread out in their home systems, start to explore others
97 BR Culta-Gen explorers find and start to colonize the planet Nevits in the Kraljev system
half a year later Human colonists land on the other side of Nevits, naming it Neo-Gueha after their nation
96 BR While exploring a mineral deposit, Culta-Gen and Human settlers encounter each other
later that year Colonists and their backing nations agree to mutually share the planet Nevits and announce to their species that they have encountered their first alien race
95 BR As alliances between Human and Culta-Gen nations cause escalation of tensions between sides, several leaders ask for calm and togetherness. They intrduce the idea of a unified Culta-Gen/Human nation.
90 BR The Free Zone Alliance (FZA) is formed around the nations of the Kraljev system
75 BR The Free Zone Alliance stretches to have completely encorperated half of civilized space, while starting to work on the rest
70 BR 5 star systems, in an effort to push back the Free Zone Alliance, form the Organization for Independent Peoples (OIP) with its main goal being to stop the encroachment of the Alliance
63 BR Two-thirds of all civilized space is under the control of the Allinace, while the other third is part of the OIP. Some systmes are split between the two, and trade is difficult between the two opposition groups.
60-50 BR Both sides try trade and diplomacy overtly while conduct raids and attacks covertly
50 BR The Alliance passes the Sedition Act, making it illegal for any Alliance personel or territory from secceding to the OIP. OIP publicly declairs it will defend any who try to join it.
42 BR The Tigark system tries to secceed from the Alliance and is blockaded by FZA dreadnaughts. The OIP sends a strike force to free the territory. The force is wiped out, but succeeds in destroying or crippling the dreadnaughts.
42-28 BR Both groups hold navies around the Tigark system (and later the Bata and Favlar Systems) and conduct skirmishes around them
28 BR All population centers in the Tigark system are simultaneously destroyed by the detonation of nuclear weapons. Both sides claim the other did it and declare total war.
27-18 BR Principle combat of the Free Zone Wars happens in all but the core systems of the Free Zone. Most combat ends with both sides withdrawing without victory. Little is left of the areas withdrawn from. Trillions die in the conflict.
25 BR The Serene Vale, a way out of the nebula, is found and traveled by several exploritory craft. The news is lost amonst the war.
22 BR Investigators find that the dstruction of the Tigark system, as well as several other places during the war, was caused by a group know as Entropy's Acceleration. Few hear of or care about this.
19 BR In an effort to remove civilians from the war, both sides agree to start moving them through the Serene Vale. The convoy is hit by a Thunderclap and almost all are killed.
17 BR With both sides decimated, Entropy's Acceleration attacks naval docks and military staging points across civilized space. Both sides join forces to fight the Entropists as well as remove the last of civilians from civilized space through the Serene Vale.
half a year later In response, the Entropists launch their most horrible attack ever, a virus bomb onto the Free Zone's capital planet, Nevits. All living material is destroyed within 24 hours of the bomb's detonation. Several minutes later the planet is engulfed in flame as the gases created by this destruction ignite. No one on the planet escapes.
16-14 BR All military is either escorting civilians out through the Serene Vale or fighting off Entropist attacks on the Vale's entrance
14 BR All civilians are removed from the nebula as are all military forces. The rearguard destroys an attack by Entropists as it exits through the Vale, suffering major losses in the process. It stays at the exit of the Vale to make sure no Entropists escape. None ever try to.
14-1 BR The survivors move out to colonize 5 nearby habitable planets and start to rebuild civilization
1 AR The Armed Republic of the Serene Death is founded after the 5 colonies and their subsidiary colonies decide the need to centralize in order to prevent another war. Its name comes from the Serene Vale that the people escaped from and those that died to
3 AR The constitution for the Serene Death is finalized and signed by leaders of all planets in known space. Those against the new actions move further away from the main planets, towards the galaxy's core.
305 AR The leadership of Dunwyl (a planet in the Dynba system run by a theocracy) declares their religion to be the one true religion and make those on Dunwyl that don't follow it become second-class citizens, and commits purges on those that oppose their rule. The Judicial Tribune found this to be illegal and the military was sent in to remove the religion from power. This led to the ban of fundamentalist religions in the Serene Death.
305-320 AR The leadership of Dunwyl, as well as several other non-democratic rulerships, are removed from power through a mix of local and federal military action. Non-democratic rule of territory is shuned, but never outright banned in the Serene Death.
1492 AR The Huntarian Empire is found through the wormhole in the Dynba system. This causes much trade between the two nations and the renovation of the Serene Death military with Huntarian advanced technology.
1678 AR The President of the Serene Death tries to surrender the whole nation to another intergalactic organization, The Republic. This causes the Republic War, which leads to the virus bombing of the mining planet Fugazi, the rebellion of Cadhu, and the horrible battle of the Renbo system. All in all several million people died in the week long conflict before both sides were able to stop the bloodshed.
1680 AR The military retooled after the Republic War showed severe deficiencies in the its combat capabilities. The government reorganized after a new set of elections replaced all in the government who were found guilty of treason during the Republic War. Out of the elections came a new president after months of control by the Military Council. Much of the Serene Death came to believe that they should be isolationist in everything except trade. Rumors persisted that the Entropists are back and are attacking throughout the nation.
1700 AR Twenty years under the rule of Akiri Wall and his Indigenous Nationalist Party has led to a stagnant government and a stagnant economy. The people cry for new reforms but most parties have disolved into shadows of their former selves while the government gives up centralized control of the nation for more control by individual planets and systems. A rising resentment over military cuts and general budget cuts is stirring up the populace.
