The people of Hou Mian have long been considered skilled diplomats. Many economists and sociologists have said that this is due to their climate; when you grow up on a desert, you either learn to fight or connive. The various tribes of Hou Mian chose to connive. There political and financial acumen would make them fierce competitors in the modern world, if only they could learn to work together.
Due to the tribal nature of the nation, the leader, Fu Huangdi, must make constant efforts to keep everyone equally appeased/repressed. He knows that any one disgruntled group could lead to a mass rebellion; overall, however, those who are brave enough to say anything tend to be destroyed or coopted. For now, Fu's rule is secure.
One notable feature of Hou Mian is its exquisite transportation system. Bullet trains connect the whole country, along with superhighways and horse trails.
