Informalism is a term contributed to the creation of Allanea by the Russian immigrants who helped in the foundation of the nation. The term stems from the Soviet term ‘nonformal youth groups’, used by the USSR governemnt to denote such newborn movements such as hippies, goths, punks, and even the nascent sci-fi fandom. Eventually, the term was codified - already by the ‘nonformals’ themselves - as (roughly ) ‘groups of strange people who happily associate with other weird people, no matter the limit of weirdness’.

Of course, the real definition is much more complex by that (we recommend you order Michael Davis’ book, ‘The Informal Reality’, 2567, Port-Allanea, ‘Weirdness Publishing’, on this subject), but this serves quite well to define it.

In Allanea, ‘informal communities’ compose an ever-increasing percent of society - both because it was founded by such people and because such people are encouraged to immigrate [In fact, a complex psychological test was designed to identify the Informalist mindset - and immigrants are generally required to take it].

Liberty-City is considered the capital of informalist movements, some even taking up entire suburbs as their areas or residence. Trek-Town, Metal Quarter, and Gothic Street are all names of real areas of the city- all marked on the map.

The level of acceptance of such lifestyles in Allanea is evidenced by the fact that Admiral Blake Cameron , Commander of the Navy, was a furry who liked appearing on the deck of the Allanean wetnavy flagship, the USS, Kim Du Toit, wearing nothing but a falconer’s glove.
