The International Bird Identification Society's purpose is the promotion of interest and education towards birds. This includes their care, reproduction, exhibition and conservation both in captivity and preservation in the wild. IBIS was founded in 2007 by Mr Keith Wetfoot, a representative of HM King Dwight of Pinguinum who is a keen advocate of birds. We now have 9 member states.

Members of the IBIS receive a host of wonderful benefits. Classified advertising is free to members and is also published on our web-site. Each member also receives a complimentary IBIS Breeders Directory. Members who are breeders are listed at no charge. We also take an annual survey of both our pet owners and breeders with all information published on our site. IBIS members meet once a month at the International Aviculture conventions held in Pinguinum and other member states.

IBIS also has a free tag registration system that is available to all members. This allows people to get in contact with the breeders of their birds. We also sell IBIS leg tags to members. These tags allow these birds to be traced to the breeder so histories and pedigrees can be obtained.

Birds

The Ibis or Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), the symbol of the organsiation of the same name, lives in the temperate and tropical climate of Eurasia, Indonesia, Austalia, Africa, West Indies and the Caribbean. The Ibis can be found in marches and lakes and stands at a height of 55 to 65 cm. This species of bird is family oriented and so both parents take care of looking after their young. The females may lay 3 or 4 eggs in their nest either in a tree or a reed bed, which are subsequently incubated in turn by the parents. The number of this species are now shrinking due to the changing habitat.

Only committee members can put forward proposals for vote. In addition, these members also get one veto per each term they are voted in. Non-committee members are allowed to vote for the proposals and make suggestions. They also required to aid in improving the society under the instruction of the relevant committee member.

Members are allowed one vote for each proposal put forward by the committee.

Job descriptions

President

• Responsible for the day-to-day running of the society
• Implements the society's image
• Organises and chairs society's meetings
• Facilitates the work of other committee posts - ensuring the society's objectives are achieved

Treasurer

• Responsible for financial issues, including floats and budgets etc.
• Budgeting of events
• Keeps an accurate record of all society's records
• Signs all relevant forms to hold the position of Treasurer

Secretary

• Responsible for all society's correspondence
• Makes and keeps a record of all society meetings
• Keeps accurate records of all the socety's affairs, essential for both current and future committees.

Vice-President

• To alleviate some of the workload of the President (see description for President)
