Introduction

The Empire of Mephras is a nation based on a continent. It strives to serve its citizens and its environment. The economy is fairly strong, however the citizens are always placed before economic gain. Mephras has had a long history with much conflict, however recently the various groups have come together to form a peace loving and laid back nation.

History

Geography and Climate

Mephras resides on a section of a great continent with it's total land area approximately that of India. The nation is densely populated, and over 90% of people live in the cities. Since all cities are constructed in a dense fashion, there is still a considerable amount of land dedicated to farming and natural landscapes. Many of the locals refer to the nation as the wave or the fin, as it has that appearance from space The northern portion of the nation is generally flat, along with most of the coastline. The central region is more hilly, however still fairly flat, while the southerly regions are much more mountainous, although the mountains aren't extremely high.

The climate is generally continental in the central region, and tropical in the northern regions, while it can get quite cold in the mountains of the southern regions. Rainfall is high across the nation, allowing farm production to be high. Tropical forest exists in the north, while temperate forests and grassland dominate the rest of the nation.

Important Cities

The most important city in the nation is the capital, Euphova. Built with an emphasis on beauty, and in the center of the nation, this city houses most of the important government offices, and has a metropolitan population of about 23 million. It is also the cultural hub, with various opera houses, theatre companies, museums, and zoos. It has been called the "Jewel of Mephras", and the "City in the Garden."

Techno Trade City is the center of the import export business in the nation. Built on an island off the coast, the city is built largely with futuristic architecture, and a liberal use of neon, giving it the name, the "City of Neon." It houses about 30 million Mephrasians, and approximately 5 million peoples of various other nationalities. It also houses the largest port in the nation, through which over 30% of imports and exports are handled.

Bliss is the center of the northern resort region. It is an attraction in its own right, with beautiful natural beauty and Mediterranean architecture. It houses various rental villas and hotels which are often full of visitors. Its white sand beaches and clear blue waters draw millions every year. Also known for its legendary nightlife and dining. It is also a transport hub for the various smaller islands on which many of the richer classes take their vacation. Known as "The Happiest Place on Earth" and "The Fountain City." While only 4 million people inhabit the metropolitan area, the vacationers swell the size to almost 35 million at peak season.

Economy

After languishing under the weight of a state run command economy, the new government is looking into intense amounts of economic liberalization throughout the nation, however change is still slow going. A general reduction in the tax rate is also in the work. Foreign investment is also sought throughout the nation.

Government

The Government has recently transitioned from a state system of Communism to an Absolute Monarchy under the Empress. However there are still veins through which people can have their voices heard. The new government is still under construction, and how the final system will be has yet to be seen.

Military

The Mephrasian Military is a small force for the size of the nation. Currently it has approximately 1,000,000 active personnel, less than .1% of the population. Most of the military budget is focused on naval and costal defense. The prime agenda of the military is defense. Research into missile defense and sea mines is increasing and seen as the best path to protect the nation. Civil Defense shelters are also part of this plan.

Current Events

Recently, Mephras has entered the international political scene, joining both the United Civil Rights Alliance, and the Free World Alliance. It has also recently attempted to establish more embassies.
