Iosif Nikolaevich Malakov (Russian: Иосиф Нилолаевич Малаков, born 2 July 1944) is a former Kahanistanian general, politician, and Minister of Defense. He is controversial for his ruthlessness, seeming over willingness to resort to military force, and allegations that he framed his predecessor, General Nora Kasagawa, for treason.

Early life

Iosif Malakov was born in 1944 in eastern Poland, to a Russian soldier and a Ukrainian woman he raped in World War II. When he was born, he was abandoned by a ruined synagogue and taken in by a secularized Jewish family that was in hiding at the time in the nearby forests; he was raised as a Jewish baby and did not become aware of his non-Jewish origins until he was fourteen and living in a settlement in the Negev Desert.

Academy career

In 1959, the young Malakov joined the military academy to become a military officer. Little is known of his time in the Academy, except that he graduated in 1967 near the top of his class. He is believed to have accidentally shot an instructor on the range, but there is a theory that the shooting was intentional. The investigation was cursory and centered on training procedures, and the instructor was not particularly well-liked, so there was little political pressure to find the shooter.

In 1967, Malakov graduated from the Academy with a B.A. in political science.

Military career

Malakov remained fairly unassuming until 1971, when he was assigned to a near-fatal mission in Africa, where he was assigned to rescue captured paratroopers who were believed to be prepared to be fed to the local dictator. He managed to save one of the three paratroopers, but was himself captured, nearly killed, and had to be rescued by another detachment of marines.

After that debacle he went to tank school, and dedicated himself to the nuances of armored command and control of tanks. He was believed to be fanatically devoted to the art of tank warfare. By 1974, he had not only completed the most advanced tank courses, but also completed an M.A. in sociology via correspondence courses.

Malakov climbed rapidly through the ranks, reaching the rank of four-star general in 1993, before age 50. At this point he was the supreme commander of the armored corps, responsible for training and equipping of armored forces. It was about this time that he became involved in right-wing political organizations.

The Defense Ministry

After the election of General Marcellus Valens to the Presidency in 2006, Deputy Defense MInister Nora Kasagawa was appointed Defense Minister, and Malakov became the Deputy Defense Minister. Malakov was very active in his role, urging the development of indigenous arms and aggressive action against the Doomani. When Kasagawa was accused of treason, Malakov took over the Defense Ministry.

Controversy

Malakov has been accused of populism and framing General Kasagawa for treason. Some opponents also accuse him of anti-Catholicism; upon taking over the Ministry, he appointed General Samarra Rakhmadi, who had openly advocated the deportation of all Catholics, to the post of Deputy Defense Minister. He is also linked to the Nationalist Party of Kahanistan, which contains the majority of Kahanistan's anti-Catholics.

After Canadsteinian Intelligence with the aid of General Nadia Sklenova exposed his plan to purge the military of Catholics, Malakov was court-martialed and sentenced to two years in prison and stripped of his rank and position.
