Ixicea

Ixicea is a Kiravian colony nation, situated on a subpolar island.

History

Ixicea was discovered by early Kiravian explorers, but ignored until the early Imperial era. Once Kirav began colonizing, It was targeted and settled. A string of coastal settlements were built along the southern shore, and a provincial capital estabilished at Rëyjava. Soon, the entire island was colonized and the developed province began to take shape. 87 years after incorporation, Ixicea expanded its nautical border and Exclusive Economic ZOne to thrice its former size. Nearby nations felt threatened by the possibility of Imperial attack from this island outpost, and fleets were sent to destroy undersea cities, raft habitats, and oceanic platforms. Ixicean Provincial Military forces repelled the invaders, but with heavy losses.

Economy

The Ixicean economy is based on fishing, diatomaceous earth processing, oceanic mining, and shipbuilding. All of these activities require large areas of seaspace, thus the large Ixicean nautical border. Imperial officials have determined that Ixicea's landmass does not have the right type of rescources to support a developed terrestrial economy, but will create a first-world society based on marine industries in a matter of years.

Population

Ixicea's relatively small population of 250,000 fits comfortably on the moderately-sized island, although 70,000 Ixiceans live offshore on ships, platforms, sea settlements, or rafts. On the island, most of the population is coastal, and primarily on the south coast. The interior is sparsely settled, occupied only by villages like Snowe.
