Izana is a Baranxtuan province created during the 2006 Reforms, when it was created from the southern half of Halaora.

The province is one of the economically weakest of Baranxtu, with unemployment in some areas reaching more than 70%. Its capital Inar has been named the city with the poorest standard of living of all Baranxtu for decades. This poverty is closely linked to the decline of the mining industry in the 1960s.

Name

Izana is an obsolte Nidajii word for rock. It was named thusly for the old Akes Mersanint name for the region, "Kukuma"; the name was chosen by a popular vote in March 2006.

The current flag of Izana is actually identical with the older Halaoran flag. When the provinces were split in 2006, Izana voted to keep the old flag, whereas Halaora adopted a new flag.

The motive is an abstract depiction of Izana; the yellow on top represents the sun settling over the mountains (grey); in front is the River Inar (blue), flanked by a fertile shore (dark green), behidn which lie hillocks (pale green). The bottom dark blue represents the ocean on which shores Izana (Halaora) once lay.
