High King Kamameha was the greatest leader among the aboriginal peoples of the Resurgent Dream at the time the first European settlers arrived. He was seated in the village of Mahina in what is now Shieldcrest and was believed to have the loyalty of all the villages in a very broad area.

While Kamameha did not rule a unified state, he is widely considered to have been the rightful king of the native peoples and it is through him that current Danaan High Kings claim their right to rule that portion of the population and most of the island of Dana.

When European settlers first arrived, Kamameha and his people skirmished with them frequently, but without resolution. The European fortifications at Narich were too advanced to be overcome by the natives and the numbers of the natives were too great to be subjugated by the Europeans. Correspondingly, Kamameha made a pact with the European king, Rhygyfarch, in which he gave the settler leader his daughter Princess Maile's hand in marriage, with the understanding that their descendants should inherit a united throne of both peoples.
