Kegmenistan is territorially the largest nation within the Alliance of Honourable Peoples. It is a sparse nation made up mainly of sprawling deserts broken up in places by tight formations of towering white spires and industrial chimneys. The nation is split into five regional areas.

The Western Federal District (WFD) is considered by many urbanites as a backward nation within Kegmenistans borders. It has throughout history been a slow developer partly through design and partly by accident. The local council of churches has made life hard for large corporations and industry to setup shop here instead preffering local small time operations. It is also believed that the relatively under-developed transport links, both internal and external, to the area have caused many to consider life elsewhere. The west is naturally more beautiful than the other Federal Districts and has many unspoilt areas. One of the most famous of these areas is Boxfish Lake which is a very large dry lake. Some of the larger cities that come under the jurisdiction of the WFD include: Igorteyevka, Desnoy, Kartsevo, Limsk, and Ofa.

The Northern Federal District (NFD) is the richest of the five Districts due to its close proximity to the Kegmenistan-Super Rome border. Many of the largest and oldest businesses began their life here. It is highly developed and has large sprawling cities. Though the District may be commercially driven this is not to say that it is culturally devoid. In fact, much of the council’s coffers are spent on supporting sports, theatres, film and art. There is currently a bid for the next UAR arena to be built in the area and many are suggesting that this would be the place for it. The environment surrounding the cities in the NFD has suffered slightly of recent years mainly due to rather lapse enforcement of industrial laws. The Patriarch is said to personally be looking into the matter. The Grand Canal can be found to travel the major part of its course through the District. Major Cities that can be found in the region include: Razan, Kelyabinsk, Elyanovsk, Carborovsk and Morsk.

It has a significant cultural tradition revolving around organised religion, a strong work ethic and family values.

A single man, the Emperor, rules the nation though his power is kept in check by the pressures of its huge industrial sector. It is this industry that provides the nation with the largest GDP within the Alliance allowing the people a very high standing of living.

There is a belief that trade and military might are the ways in which a nation becomes strong and this is visibly clear to be held as true within Kegmenistan with many of it’s policies geared towards improving within these areas.

Much of the emperor’s budget is spent upon the military, which helps allow for the largest number in ground forces of any nation. Well equipped and ruthless in their approach the troops of Kegmenistan are well respected by most.

There was previously a disregard from within the ranks of the command for the idea of the necessity of a military presence within space. With the unprecedented growth in construction of vessels in space by it’s neighbouring nations it is now considered as a requirement for the protection of the nation and its peoples. As such a new project has begun with the military about to begin construction of a number of new vessels that are set to be capable of defending themselves against any of their comparatives.

The second priority for Kegmenistan is law and order. The Emperor makes no qualms about admitting that Kegmenistan takes a tight grip on the peoples lives. The people accept this rather oppressive approach as a way of ensuring the best security possible for the citizens and many are willing to assist the police and the church in maintaining that tight grip.

The nation has a number of strong allies internationally with Super Rome and Roudland being it’s primary diplomatic friends. It does however have huge respect for what are considered by many to be the “smaller” nations within the alliance, in particular Friendly Aliens and Gothria, appreciating their unique cultures and their foreign policies that aren’t really that far from their own.

There is a concern within Kegmenistan regarding the growth of radical groups within the state church. It is becoming increasingly common for some to think that the Emperor betrays the church with his liberal ideas and policies that give freedom to those who aren’t deserving of it. It is certain that in the very near future the Emperor will be required to take a strong stance in order to quell these “fascist” ideas.

Points Of Interest

There are a number of public days of celebration (note: though not necessarily holidays) within Kegmenistan:

14 February St. Valentine's Day A celebration of love and romance. Cards and roses are traditional as gifts

16 March Lucky Duck Day* A celebration of the family. Ducks are painted and sent floating down the grand canal racing towards a buoy. The winning duck entitles the owner to one wish granted by the state (subject to terms and conditions).

Workers rights legislation now means that for every 15 days of full work (based on 8 hour days) 1 day of paid holiday is required. Including National Holidays this means that most full time workers recieve a minimum 17 days of paid holiday.

Smoking has been banned in public in Kegmenistan for a number of years now as part of the legislation laid out in the Right to Health Act.

It is estimated that it would take 8,907,649,101 ping-pong balls to fill Boxfish Lake. No-one knows where the name Boxfish lake comes from. It does not appear that the crater was ever filled with water and if it was it certainly wouldn't have had boxfish living in it.

The latest piece of legislation passed was a widespread revision of the Food Standards Bill. Two major points the bill now addresses are limitations on the percentage of salt that can be present in foods and the requirement for the amount of water found within a product to be clearly visible on the label.

As a result of the ban on automobiles the Government has now had to fit canopies between all buildings within Kegmenistan due to the increase in citizens suffereing from dehydration and exhaustion whilst walking through the streets in high temperatures. There has also been an increase in public water points throughout the cities. Since private automobiles have been banned in Kegmenistan the underground system of highways are now in the control of the armed forces to aid in the easy mobilization of forces.

The government now requires that all tevision stations and radio stations broadcast their signals in a digital format. Telephony companies are also required to send and recieve signals through high speed fibre-optic cables and to replace all old cables with these new high-bandwidth versions.

The current official languages within Kegmenistan are Russian and Alliance Standard English. There is talk however of the introduction of a language currently only known as “Newspeak” to replace the official language of Russian. This has of yet been unconfirmed by the Emperor and as such remains but a rumour.

The national animal of Kegmenistan is the Pandinus imperator or the Emperor Scorpion which can be found in the countries many deserts.
