Function: Capital
Population: 153,670,000
Leader: Sacred Emperor Ishamael

The city of Korronis is capital of the Kregaian Empire (commonly known as The Warmaster) and seat of the Kregaian Imperium. The city is coastal, situated at the tip of the Palatine Peninsula and straddling the strait leading into the Gold Sea. This strategic position has made the city so valuable as a military and economic strong point.

Korronis was founded hundreds of years before the rise of the Imperium itself, when the first Romans landed on the continent of Kregaia. They made the site their capital, from which they proceeded to subjugate the local natives and administer a sizable empire. With the rise of Typhon the Warmaster (for whom the nation is named), the Old Empire was dissolved and the Imperium established in its place, a vast government bureaucracy rooted in the heart of Korronis. The city's Sacred Precinct became home to the grandest of the Empire's temples, the massive pyramidal mausoleum known as the Sanctum of the Hierarchs, and the Great Forum, as well as the nerve center of Imperial power, the Imperial Palace.

As the seat of such key institutions as the Inquisition, the Council of Prefects, and the Sacred Emperor himself, it became increasingly obvious that the city was becoming a huge target, as well as a potential prize of incredible value. Whoever holds Korronis will rule the Empire, as has been proved time and again, and so with typical paranoia, the Sacred Emperors began fortifying the city to the full extent of their era's engineering capacity. From catapults, massive walls, and huge stores of food to a massive SAM network and huge gun emplacements at strategic points in the city itself, the city's defenses have evolved out of necessity. As the economic, political, military, religious, social, and industrial center of the Empire, the loss of Korronis to foreigners would be a blow from which the Imperium might not ever recover.

In the last months of Sacred Emperor Lucifer's reign, the city was the target of multiple terrorist bombings, now known to have been financed and organized by a network of dissidents headed by none other than High Lord Asmodeus. At the conclusion of the Succession Wars, the city was the site of the Siege of Korronis, the single bloodiest battle in human history, during which Loyalist forces struggled to hold off Ishamael's invading army while the Generic Empire betrayed the Loyalists, ordering its "reinforcements" to attack the city. The damage to Korronis was massive, and billions of dollars have since been spent on returning it to its pre-war glory.

Geography

Korronis is situated on the tip of the Palatine Peninsula, basically in the center of Kregaia's southern coast. Across the Straits lie the Capitoline Peninsula, which holds some of the newer, less densely populated canons of the city, and north of the Palatine is the island that houses the Financial District. Korronis, through its location on the Palatine and Capitoline Peninsulas, straddles the Straits, which are the only entrance from the larger ocean to the Gold Sea. This strategic location has made Korronis a key power center on Kregaia, aside from its importance as the center of the Imperium. The city is located in a subtropical climate zone: humid and hot during the summer and autumn months, and with mild winters; the heat is further increased by the massive pollution around the city, which often shrouds Korronis in haze. The ground is fairly flat, with some low hills.

Organization

Korronis is organized into 29 canons, sections of the city that once were separate towns, but as Korronis grew and engulfed the entire tip of the Palatine Peninsula, the towns were incorporated into the city itself. The canons have practically no administrative power; the High Prefect of Korronis is the only real direct authority over the city, at least in peacetime. In war, the city can be placed under martial law, stuffing all citizens into the military chain of command.
