The Federal Republic of Kosmania, more commonly referred to as Kosmania, is a representative democracy located on the continent of Perspectif, in the region of Wysteria. It shares land borders with South Kosmania to the south, Erodka to the east, and Barjavel to the southeast. To the northwest, in the distance, lies Sable Island, across the ocean. The nation is comprised of four states, and one territory. All have some level of local autonomy.

History

Kosmania's history can be traced back to prehistoric times, when four tribes predominantly inhabited the continent. These tribes are the Gotten, the Buchen, the Matrizen, and the Catoczan. Out of the Gotten tribe emerged a woman simply known as Joan. She presented to the leaders of each of the four tribes, her "Doctrine of Kosmanian Union". This speech would be directly responsible for uniting the four tribes as the Kosmanian Federation, using their common Christian faith to keep it together. The tribe leaders felt that to lead the Federation, they would need an overseer. Naturally, Joan was appointed as Kosmania's first overseer.

During the Medieval Period, trust in the tribes decreased, and faith in the overseer increased. This led to a huge increase in the power of the Office of Overseer. In 1797, Henry Schuster was serving as overseer. He collaborated with some 800 soldiers and drove out the tribal leaders from Buchland (then capital of Kosmania), and declared himself King Henry of the Kingdom of Kosmania. The state immediately took over all lands, and began "lending" them to peasants, allowing them to work on the land, keep some of the fruits of their labor, but pay most back to their Lord (see Feudalism).

Then, in 1909, came Queen Mary Elizabeth (also known as "Damned Mary"). Mary revolutionized Kosmania, complete with a new flag, and a new capital. Queen Mary Elizabeth officially ordered that the capital be moved from Buchland, to a new city being built, named Gottestadt. Mary Elizabeth told the people that Joan was from the province of Gottes, making it only proper that the capital be in the province of Gottes. In the meantime, the Southern part of Kosmania was in economic turmoil. The nation had just recently industrialized, and all of the factories were built in the North, almost complete ruining the South. This situation served as a catalyst for the communist revolution that would follow.

The Kosmanian Civil War

The communist forces in the south were mainly led by a revolutionary named Max Loune. Loune successfully convinced the southern half of the Kingdom that the reasoning behind moving the capital to Gottestadt was to completely finish off the South. Instead of flooding the air-waves with propaganda, Loune decided to show the people how life would work under communism. Loune took over 200 followers to a farm in Catocia, and showed them a family, which, he said, was already living out the communist philosophy. He talked to the father of the family, and he said that they had been working all day preparing for the harvest in the coming months. For dinner, the family had a turkey, vegetables, and pie (all of which had been secretly supplied by Loune).

On June 8th, 1922, Max Loune ventured out to a small town named Endereis, located on the most southern tip of the Kingdom. He renamed the city Rottesburg, and declared himself Premier of the People's Republic of Kosmania. Word got to Gottestadt, and Queen Mary Elizabeth immediately sent troops in to "keep the peace." Royalist troops were grossly outnumbered, but the Queen thought it was best to keep them in the South until the revolt would die off; it didn't.

Queen Mary Elizabeth was assassinated on May 1, 1925, and her son, Henry, would be crowned King Henry II that very same day. The headline on the Times of Buchland that very morning read, "Der Süden ist rot!"

King Henry II officially terminated all military operations on May 2, 1925, and declared full recognition of the People's Republic of Kosmania (henceforth referred to as "South Kosmania"). A DMZ cut the nation in half. Dali, a small little farming village on the DMZ, was the only city permitted to have its residents be both Kosmanian and South Kosmanian citizens.
