History Of Liberated New Ireland

Early Years

PRLNI formed during the bloody Irish Civil War of 2013, when General Sean O'Connor, leading the Unionist Third Division, seized control of County Limerick from the Separatist army on the orders of the Oireachtas. Tired of the senseless bloodshed of the previous few months, he declared County Limerick to be its own state, and severed ties with the Oireachtas. Over the next two years, while his former country tore itself apart, he formed a new, libertarian, government. Two years later, when an overwhelming force of two million Unionist soldiers attacked, he fended them off with the Third Division, and some 1.5 million peasant soldiers during the Battle of Kilteely-Dromkeen. The involvement of the peasant soldiers was the basis of the modern Kern "volunteer" fighters.

Present

The People's Republic of Liberated New Ireland recently changed its name to the Armed Republic of Liberated New Ireland. The Republic has mantained a fairly militaristic foreign policy for several years now. It often abstains from international politics, but when one nation oppresses or conquers another, the ARLNI will often step in, using military might to restore peace and equality to the area. This military-based policy is also reflected somewhat domestically: while its people have many freedoms, all citizens are subject to mandatory military service.

Geography of Liberated New Ireland

Environment

While Ireland was once known for its rolling green hills and farmlands, decades of pollution and carpet bombing have turned the geography of Ireland into a land of scorched, arid dirt. The trees are dead, and, outside the cities, life is nearly impossible.

Political/Physical Geography

Location: ARLNI is located at the city of Limerick (52.6652° N 8.6238° W) and its territory spreads some 3,000 square kilometers beyond the city limits. With no reliable access to the coastline, it can be considered landlocked.

Terrain: The terrain of PRLNI is dominated by flat grasslands, dotted with hills and ridges. The country is ringed by mountains: The Slieve Felims, The Galtees (Na Gaibhlte), the Ballyhouras, and the Mullaghareirk Mountains. The land is mostly used for urban areas and subsistence farming.

Climate: The climate of ARLNI is arid, with temperatures ranging from 7-10 degrees Celsius in winter, to 20-25 degrees in summer, and rainful averaging 60 cm of rainfall annually.

Economy of Liberated New Ireland

The people of ARLNI are mostly subsistance or hydroponic farmers. Hydroponic farms are necessary in ARLNI, because much of the land is not arable, and because so many people live in a relatively small area. The rest of ARLNI's economy relies on arms manufacturing (centering around domestic versions of other weapons, most notably the Steyr AUG, and the Bradley M-3) and oil/metal gathering and refining.

- Farming 62%

- Manufacture 10%

- Arms Manufacturing 14%

- Oil and Mining 14%

Culture

The people of ARLNI are proudly Irish to the core. Christianity, especially Catholicism, is the dominant religion of ARLNI. Despite the fact that a unified Irish state doesn't exist, ARLNI's citizens consider themselves to be Irish, and citizens of Ireland. They see ARLNI as an intermediate state, to protect the people until the country pacifies.

The majority of ARLNI's citizens fall under the Proletarian social class. Proletarians work in the factories, fields, plants, and mines of ARLNI, and serve in its armies. Another social class, the much-hated bourgeoisie, has significant power in ARLNI, because of the factories it owns (in which 10% of the population works). Nearly all bourgeoisie are actually foreigners. The Toopoxican Organisation has significant interests in ARLNI.

ARLNI is most known in the recreation department for:

- It's popular punk and metal bands

- The invention of screech metal

- It's renowned hockey and football (soccer) teams

ARLNI Military Forces

Manpower: 1,500,000 active soldiers, 678,900 Air Force personnel

Additional Available Manpower: 8,688,140 Kerns, (majority serving in Logistics divisions)

Minimum Age for Sevice: 15. All citizens must serve for 4 years between ages 18 and 25.

Ground Forces

The backbone of the LNI Army is the Proffesional branch. They are considered a mechanized infantry force, and they use the LNIMD IFV-1. They are equipped with the Steyr AUG, updated and modified to fire the 6.8mm Caseless HEAP round, invented by MCID, Inc. to battle the Capitol Police. They use the M-249 and M-240 as machineguns. LAWs are used for anti-armor purposes. Each squad has a designated marksman, equipped with an accurized, sniper-model Steyr AUG.

The majority of LNI soldiers belong to Kern Volunteer Units. They are considered a light infantry force. The riflemen are equipped with AMA63 Assault Rifles, and AMA77 Integrated Assault Weapons. They, like the Proffesionals, use M249 light machineguns. The designated marksman doctrine is applied using accurized AMA63s. (Link for data on AMA weapons.)

Here's an incomplete organisational breakdown of the Proffesionals: There are 10 Armies of 100,000 soldiers, each with a unique name and insignia:

 Tiger Army
 Wolf Army
 Reaper Army
 Green Army
 Doomsday Army
 Gallowglass Army
 Banshee Army
 Fianna Army
 Panther Army
 Blackflag Army
 Ragnarok Army
 Hospitaller Army
 Templar Army
 Serpent Army
 St. Michael's Army

Organisation at Army level: Led by a Field Marshal. Each army consisting of 5 Divisions

 3 Mechanized Divisions
 2 Armored Divisions
At Division Level (20,000 soldiers, led by a General)
 Mechanized Division
   3 Mechanized Infantry Regiments
   1 Recon/Light Infantry Regiments

      5 Light Infantry Battalions
Battalion Level (1,000 soldiers, led by LT Colonel):
      Tank Battalion
      80 LNIMD MBT-1
620 foot soldiers, for recon and protection from infantry
      Mechanized Infantry Battalion
1,000 soldiers organized into 4 companies (250 soldiers each, led by a Commander), each with 5 platoons (50, led by LT. Cmdr.), with 2 sections (25, led by a Captain).
Each battalion has 85 LNIMD IFV-1s. This is only enough to carry half of the soldiers, so the other half rides desant.
      Light Infantry Battalion
1,000 soldiers organized into 4 companies (250 soldiers each), each with 5 platoons (50), with 2 sections (25).
Soldiers walk on foot, or are air-dropped.

Kern Legions consist of 500,000 Kerns, led by a Volunteer General. Fighting Legions support Proffesional Armies on the front line, while Logistics Legions support the armies by building fortifications, protecting supply lines, and, in the homeland, working in motor pools, repair facilities, and munitions factories. During peacetime, all Legions are considered Logistics Legions. The greatest number of Kerns in Fighting Legions will never excede 3,707,040 (70 legions).
