Overview

The Football League is a league pyramid that consists of three levels - the Premiership, which is split into four sections of four teams each, Groups 1 through 4 sorted in no particular order; the First Division consisting of six teams; and the Second Division, also containing six teams. Below you will find scorelines from the 22F/23Q (World Cup 22 finals/World Cup 23 qualifiers) season from the Premier Division. Please note, in the section below, Orean stands for Orean United, while CCL 'C' and 'D' stand for the 3rd and 4th sector of the city respectively.

Premier Division

Regular Season First Half

The season got off to a relatively dull start, but one odd thing to note was third-seeded IDEXO, which had lost 8 players to free agency, were on a drawing run, going 0-3-0 to start the season. That changed on Matchday 4 with a comfortable 3-0 away win at arch-rivals Shrewtoe. Orean United, formerly a powerhouse in the Liverpool England game, also cracked an 0-3-0 start to the season to record the biggest winning margin of the season, 4-0. Hungry Palls became an unexpected dominant force, starting the season 3-1-0 (10 points from a possible 12).

Orean picked up another win, this time cracking Hungry Palls' unbeaten run, but IDEXO slipped up and lost. Orean rounded off a good first-half of the season with another strong away performance, winning 2-0 at Blackwater, putting them provisionally second in the Group 4 table, secondary to only Hungry Palls, who beat CCL 'D' 2-0 on Matchday 6. CCL 'D''s slip up put them in third. Also losing on Matchday 6 were IDEXO, who seemed to be losing form. They finished provisionally last in Group 2 on six points from a possible 18, however only four points off the pace. North Fence Pushing provisionally led Group 1, having dropped only five points along the way. A strong Matchday 6 1-0 away win was enough to put them ahead of opponents CCL 'C' by two points. Red Harp Gold Lute seemed to be the disaster of the season, their two points in Group 3 put them 9 points behind provisional leaders Schimpol, who led defending champs Pardbo by one point. Talbott finished provisionally third in that group on Goal Difference.

Regular Season Second Half

The second half of the season saw Hungry Palls continuing their impressive run, only for it to be stopped dead in their tracks on Matchday 9, but leaving their record at an impressive 5-2-2. Matchday 9 also saw the highest scoring game of the season, with Talbott defeating Schimpol 5-2 - a total of seven goals - all at one end.

Orean once again went on an inconsistent run, something that has hindered them for the past four seasons. They went on a LLWLD five-game run, picking up only four points from fifteen. The penultimate matchday was a surprise, with all four seeded teams dropping points - two drew, and two lost.

When the regular season came to a close, two seeded teams - IDEXO and CCL 'D' - finished 0-0-2 over the last two games, North Fence Pushing, another seeded team, finished the season of by going 0-2-0, and Pardbo, defending champions, finished 0-1-1.

North Fence Pushing comfortably won Region 1, but the Wings were unlucky to fall into the relegation trap after missing out on possible safety by two points. IDEXO, surprisingly, were unable to keep their form from two seasons ago going. They finished last in Group 2 and would have to play in the relegation playoffs for any potential safety. The Bazaar dropped only 15 points from their 36 possible to win the group. No surprises about the Gold Lute falling into the Relegation Playoffs, but Talbott would have been thanking their lucky stars, managing to avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premiership, pipping Schimpol by a point to safety. CCL 'D' were the second out of the four seeded teams to fail to gain safety, dropping into the relegation playoff. Hungry Palls deservedly won the group, guaranteeing a seeding for the 23F/24Q season.

In the following tables, CP means that a team has qualified for
the Championship playoffs. RP signifies a team has failed to escape
the relegation playoffs. A + signifies a team was seeded for the season.

Playoffs (Relegation)

For the first time, the relegation playoffs would feature eight teams instead of four, with three teams being relegated instead of two. It would also, for this season, 'featured' two seeded teams - that is, teams that had won their regular season groups the year prior - CCL 'D' and IDEXO, who had won the league just two seasons (three years) earlier.

After four matchdays it looked like IDEXO were safe; they were second in the table only behind Schimpol, with 7 points from 12. CCL 'D' were dangerously in the drop zone. Things changed, however, as IDEXO went on a five-game skid losing all 15 possible points to put them dead last, and only wins would help pull them up.

On the last day of the Relegation Playoffs, anything was still possible. CCL 'D' were fourth-from-bottom - and would decide the fate of themselves, adn the three teams below them. A win would confirm that IDEXO, Greatcliff Tragic and Red Harp Gold Lute would be relegated. A draw, and if IDEXO lost to fellow-strugglers Greatcliff Tragic, they would stay up. Either way, one seeded team was definitely going down - had IDEXO won and CCL 'D' lost, CCL 'D' would have been relegated.

As things turned out, the IDEXO-Greatcliff Tragic match had no bearing on the outcome of the playoff; CCL 'D' had drawn 1-1 with Blacckwater to secure safety - by a single point, with only 3 points seperating the bottom four teams, who finished 17-16-15-14 on points. Unfortunately, IDEXO, alongside Greatcliff Tragic and Gold Lute, would be spending the next season in the First Division.

Playoffs (Championship)

The Championship Playoffs took place for the first time in six years - two seasons (each season covers the span of the finals of a World Cup and the qualifying for the next - about three years) and Pardbo, defending champions from the 20F/21Q season, were looking to defend their title. There were an unprecedented three Kingsfordian clubs in the championship playoffs; previously there had been a maximum of one each season (IDEXO won 19Q/20F in the playoffs, North Fence Pushing took part in 20F/21Q). This would give, if any of the Kingsfordian clubs won the league, the tag of only the second-ever Kingsfordian winner of the Liverpool England Football League - after IDEXO two seasons - nine years - ago.

Pardbo got off to a good defence of their title with a comfortable away win at Thunderbird Bazaar 2-0. North Fence Pushing second seeds this season, also won, 1-0 against Hungry Palls. The clash between the two top seeds was billed as one to look forward to; how wrong the press would be. Instead, they were disappointed with a slow, boring game on a hot day in the Folenisan Desert, and only an 89th-minute headed goal salvaged something for the home fans to cheer about. Hungry Palls were again dealt a severe blow to their title hopes with their second consecutive loss.

Pardbo and Hungry Palls both recorded wins on Matchday 5, North Fence Pushing's hopes of a title taking a severe blow on the penultimate day of the season in the process. Their goal difference was now 0 - compared to -1 for Thunderbird Bazaar, who were to play them on the last day, and were three points behind. A win, therefore, for the Bazaar on MD6 would put them ahead of North Fence... but would it put them ahead of Pardbo and Hungry Palls? It certainly would, if those two teams drew.

Hungry Palls won on the last day, knowing that that result secured them the title. Congratulations to Hungry Palls on a good season all around, and for earning themselves the first-seed for the following season.
