Backround

Lucianus has been a major city in Granate every since the time of the Great Lords. It infact was one of the leading Dukedoms of that time and was a vital ally in securing the Kleinhearts as Monarchs during the War of Many Lords. It's troops were among the most well-trained and armed soldiers in the Kleinheart Army. No one actually knows why the Duke of Lucianus actually swore fealty to the Kleinhearts. Some suggest trickery or sorcery, but those were quickly ruled out by some of Granate's leading Historians. The most generally accepted answer was that the Duke had alot to lose by going against the Kleinhearts and didn't want his city demolished. Although this debated by the surviving members of the Duke's Family.

Whatever the reason for the Duke's fealty to the Kleinhearts, it is well documented that the first Kleinheart Ruler, whose name is lost to history, named Lucianus the Capital of the Kingdom of Granate in return for it's soldiers hardwork and dedication. Not once did Lucianus' troops retreat unless ordered to, not once did they act in a manner not fitting men, not once did they fail in their objectives. They were the best of the best, the elite. Many of the Greatest Lucianian Warriors were put in the Republican Guard to protect the new King of Granate. All was well, or so it seemed.

In 1505, a force of Peasants and Middle-Class men rebelled against King. They tried to force out the Monarchy and instil what they called a Democracy. The force of Democrats, as they were known, invaded Lucianus and the city was pretty much turned to rubble in the wake of heavy street fighting. Only the Southern end of the city survived, mostly due to the limited amount of Cannons the Democrats had. But even though they all but destroyed Lucianus, they were crushed. Much of there force was captured in a battle 13 miles west of Lucianus 2 months after it's destruction. Most were pardoned due to the good graces of the King, but a few were tried for Treason and hanged. The rebellion was over and Lucianus was being rebuilt, but still resentment boiled in the people's hearts. It was then, 4 months later, that the King Announced the Formation of the Granatian Parliament. A Legislative Body that would voice the people's opinions to the King and help him run the Country. The first elections were held in 1506 and the Parliament officially convened in 1507 in the newly build Reichstag, or Parliament Building as it's known to the people.

Lucianus was also the Capital during the Democratic Union, which is sometimes refered to as the Second Democratic Rebellion. The Democratic Union would rule Granate for nearly 100 years, before the Dictatorship of Herman Alkalein came into being. Herman Alkalein was for lack of a better word, crazy. He had many monuments in Lucianus and other cities torn down to make room for ones of him. Many were killed in his 6 years of Terror and Power. A rebellion was lead by the remnants of Parliament and the now-disposed Kleinheart Family. They rebelled against Alkalein and retook power away from him. Alkalein was sentenced to be killed by hanging and firing squad at the same time. After this, the leaders of the rebellion agreed to allow for a Republic, instead of Union, to lead Granate. The Kleinhearts returned into obscurity.

For another 100 years, Parliament ruled Granate. The country was at peace and the economy was booming. But, a new wave of Nationalism swept the country. Rallies were held all across the country. The reason for these rallies was shocking to the Members Parliament. They were rallying for the return of the Monarchy and the Kleinheart rule. Most members of Parliament were appalled at the idea and didn't do anything about it. But as time went on, the Rallies become more and more violent. Parliament had to act now. In 1853 they passed the Monarchial Code Act, which allowed for the Return of the Kleinheart King, but his powers were that of a de facto President with increased powers.

In recent history, Lucianus has gone through a state of rapid Technolization. Much of the city was renovated and alot of Technological Amenities were added throughout the city. Most notably are the security cameras on every city street and the free DSL Internet. Key-Locks on most doors were removed in favor of Thumb-Scanners or Key-Card scanners, although Chain-Locks on the inside of the door are still used. Other technolizations to the city included a revamping of the Police System, allowing for quick and easy deployment of Officers.

Geography

Lucianus is on the Lucian Peninsula, which juts out into the Granatian Sea, formerly known as the Lucianian Sea before its name was changed in 1851. It was chosen for the City of Lucianus by the Duke of Lucianus, back in 889, which is the earliest record of the city. It was chosen for its strategic defensive position near the Sea and for it's quite fertile soil. Before it became one of Granate's Metropolis, it was a large producer of Wheat and Barley. One of the main problems with this area, was the almost complete lack of good timber. Most of the trees in the area near Lucianus were young and just starting to grow. The Duke had to send men trekking nearly 45 miles for Lumber. Stone was also few and far between. There were few stone buildings in the Early days.

Districts

Lucianus is broken up into five districs based on the Businesses and Culture that permeate in them.

Tyr's Hand: The Port District

Tyr's Hand is home to most of the Shipping Companies in Lucianus. It is also home to nearly 4 Million Fishers who head out every morning into the Granatian Sea to try and catch some of Granate's more elusive fauna, the Granatian Sea Fish. It is considered a delicacy in some parts of world, including Granate. The port is large enough for some the largest Oil Tankers in the world, which very useful when one of the 13 Granatian Super Dreadnaughts need repairs. 2 of the SDs are currently stationed in the harbor, mostly for defense and partly because it's cheaper then to send them out on Patrols like the smaller vessels of the Royal Granatian Navy.

West-Ruhrland: Factory District

West-Ruhrland is named after the former Granatian Fiefdom of West Ruhrland, which was the Honorable Foe the Kleinheart Duke fought to unite the Country. It is home to nearly 7 Million Factory Works and Managers, who keep Granate's Industry Running. They mostly produce Automobiles in Granatian Factories, with a few producing Automobile Parts. Some factories have also been awarded contracts to Produce some Arca. IV Nakíl/Nakíl 1 Tanks or Arica. I 'Shalmaneser' APCs, with LPRs that the Royal Granatian Defense Ministry has procured from Kriegzimmer.

Kleinburgh: Downtown District

Named after the Kleinheart family, which is currently ruling Granate as it's Monarchs. It is home to many of larger more upscale businesses in Lucianus, but it also has it's far share of Small Businesses. This is District is also home to a good deal of the police and firecrews in Lucianus, holding around 50% of them. Crime used to be a problem here, but with the Technolization of the City and the increase in police numbers, it has died down.

Home of the Reich: Government District

Home of the Reich basically means that is this area is where the Empire is Ruled. Reich is German for Empire and German is one of Granate's national Languages. Everything from the Reichstag, Parliament, and Royal Granatian Court, Supreme Court, to the Kleinheart Palace, which is where the King himself lives with his immediate family and a large group of Servants. The Palace and a few of the other Government buildings are protected by round-the-clock surveillance by the Republican Guard, an elite Military Unit that has existed since the Formation of the nation. Roughly 600,000 people call this District home.

Ost-Side: Projects District

Ost-Side is basically a large area in the eastern portion of Lucianus. It is home to the Lower-class factory workers and other such people. Housing Projects are very common in this area, and it is considered to be a very rough area. Although they aren't quite as bad as projects in other countries, these are still quite bad. Crime is a problem and very few Real-Estate works want to go there, so land is cheap. But the people who live here are fiercly Nationalistic and beleive that the next day may be brighter.
