State Religion: As the people of Manhattan Prime embrace science, it is a very secular society (like the Federation in Star Trek) and there is no official religion. The majority of the population is humanist, with most of the remainder being atheists.

History:

Founded by colonists from 11 Earth nations, the Colony of Manhattan Prime is now thriving in it’s new home on Earth. The colony had been established just over 100 years, moving from an overcrowded homeworld to start a new colony on another planet.

We are a Modern Tech nation, our only future tech invention, the sleeper colony ship that brought us here being dismantled for supplies.

Although Manhattan Prime is a liberal democracy, the homeworld was ruled by an Emperor, hence the ‘Imperial Colony’ title, kept for old times sake. Likewise, the colonists named their states and cities after their countries of origin, to make them feel more at home. Until recently, Manhattan Prime was quite isolationist, concentrating on establishing their own cities and infrastructure. However now it has thrown open it’s doors and several nations have built embassies there.

As the colony is quite fresh, talented people are promoted quickly and the government is composed of quite young individuals.

The current President, Andrew Cuthbert is 29 years old. An intelligent and charismatic leader, he is known for his honest, open and informal style, and strong commitment to civil rights, education and scientific development.

Manhattan Prime is a socially progressive nation, known for it’s fine Universities; the major ones being in Manhattan, New London, New Tokyo, New Los Angeles, New Berlin, and New Sydney. Its intelligent, compassionate population of 368 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Social Equality, and Healthcare. The income tax rate is 52%. An almost nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales industry.

The government is spending millions on renovating the public transportation system, the nation has opened its arms to an influx of refugees, the government has undertaken a massive education and health program to combat VODAIS, and genetic research is temporarily tied up in government red tape. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem. Manhattan Prime's national animal is the fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the credit.
