Merciful Doom

The Merciful Doom is a Nanite-based weapon system used by Omega-XIII. Merciful Doom systems appear anywhere in size, ranging from handheld, Bazooka-sized Man-Portable MDs, or MANPOMEDs, over tank-mounted MD Cannons to planetary siege weapons mounted on orbital weapons platforms or spaceships. MDs all share the way they operate: They shoot a capsule filled with Nanites at the target. This capsule can be of solid matter, or partially or entirely be made up by some kind of force field to withstand larger acceleration and eventual countermeasures. The capsule contains an amount of nanomachines, or rather, in Omega-XIII's case, Quantum Machines like the Omega Psion particle. Upon impact, these machines begin transforming everything in their range into grey goo, a process which has been described as ecophagy. While smaller, personal MD weapons might leave a small group of soldiers as puddles of goo, larger siege weapons can easily decompose an entire city, or even devour a planet. In terms of the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Nanotechological and Temporal Weapons Treaty, Merciful Doom weapons are counters as both Nanoweapons and Biological weapons, due to the characteristics of any of Omega-XIII's machines to be extensions of the lifeforce at the end of time.
