New-Montana has had a very peculiar history as a state. Founded originally in the Oort cloud of the New Haven Socialist Republic system, the state numbered no more than 35,000 settlers, mainly occupying small SSUV-type vessels and a single processing/administration spaceport. After the NHSR decided Allanean presence in the area was offensive to its principles, Midlonia mediated a compromise in which war would be avoided by evacuating (towing) the settlers into the asteroid belt of the New-Idaho system, and declaring that as the State of New-Montana.
