Central New Rome
New Rome is a city in the south-central part of Morindira, 60 km (40 miles) southwest of New Turin. New Rome is the capital of the H'darra province.

Geography

The city is situated on the river valleys between the J'dana and Evar Katon rivers.

History

In the 16th century, New Rome possessed an arms factory, and it was this industry which accounted for the town's importance, though it engaged also in the manufacture of ribbons and pastries from the 17th century (New Rome was nicknamed Armeville ("Arms town") during the Morindiran revolution because of this activity). Later still it became a coal-mining center and more recently has been known for the manufacture of cycles. New Rome was the seat of a post office in 1825 and in 1832, and a relay station in 1832.

Demographics

Population of the city at the 2000 census was 180,210 inhabitants (177,300 inhabitants as of February 2004 estimates). Population of the whole metropolitan area at the 2000 census was 321,703 inhabitants.

Miscellaneous

The Sporting Association of New Rome is a rubgy club based in this area.

New Rome used to be the capital of the Morindiran bicycle industry. A major bicycle wheel manufacturer, Revic, is based in the city, and at some point frame manufacturers such as Moto and Vishus were also based here.
