Introduction

The Armed Republic of Nordir is a relatively large, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its strong, anti-buisness politics. Its stable and homogenous population of 125 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which acts as a vanguard for the Nation's interests. In regular lives, citizens remain relatively unoproessed with a bill of reasonable civil rights. The national animal is the Eagle, which flies freely and magestically throughout the unpolluted skies of this wonderful reich. The currency is the Nordic Credit, which is mostly electronically stored.

A strong sense of National unity, honor and integrity exists almost universally in Nodir. Citizens are fiercely loyal to the National cause. Foreign influence is frowned upon, in an intellectual ethnocentric sort of manor. This is due to the racial and trbial homogeniety of this nation's history. The economy is mostly centrally administered, and top priorities are Law and Order, Healthcare, Education, and Defense. The surrounding community views this culture as corrupt, but to the citizens of Nordir, anything else would be destructive, degenerate, backwards and unthinkable.

Geography

Nordir is a large peninsula and a few large islands located in the frozen northlands. It has many rivers, mountains and forests. The peninsula has a mountain range along the base, making the Nation easily defendable from land invasion.

History

The an affiliation of racially equivalent Indo-European tribes, called the Nordiri, first settled this region after the last ice age. The where a fiercely honorable yet warlkike people who where (and still are) at harmony with nature. The warlike tribe domesticated the horse and developed iron weapons, driving nearly all ancient opposition off the peninsula. This civilization built permanent towns along rivers, lakes and coastlines. The Nordiri became adept shipbuilders and mariners, exploring much of the surrounding area, conquering a few neighboring islands. In medeival times, the Nordiri where Vikings. Eventually walled cities and castles emerged, and Viking petty warlords battled eachother for power. Olaf I, Nordir's first king united all of these warlords and the Kingdom of Nordir was created. This existed for many centuries. In the 19th century, the industrial revolution hit Nordir. Capitalism was threatening to consume even the mighty Nordiri society. The monarch and direct blood descendant of Olaf I, Heinrich IV, was overthrown in the early 20th century, a capitalist industrial "democracy" set in place. The Nordiri saw terrible poverty and chaos during the 40 year "democracy". About 30 years into the democracy, a movement known as the Third National Front emerged. Eventually, this party was democratically elected to power, but big buisnessmen refused to allow such socialists to power. The Third National Front and its support across Nordir overthrew the feeble, money driven government and set up the National Socialist Meritocracy that exists today.

Government/laws

Nordir is a officially National Socialist Meritocracy. Native Nordiri are the only people who can hold citizenship, and cultural diffusion is watched carefully. The government is run laregely on a basis of merit, not popular opinion. All big buisness is illegal, and socialistic ecnomic laws are in place. There are three branches of government, The Executive Command, The National Soviet, and the Judicial System. The executive command is based on the leadership principle with the chancellor at the top, and various heads of departments including Defense, State Affairs, Law and Order, Commerce, Culture, Education, etc. These extend downwards to the common man. Most workers are a direct part of this intricate meritocracy. The National Soviet is a network of assemblies that can challenge the meritocracy in various ways. It does not have as much power as the Executive Command, but it can veto many descisions, usually ones that violate civil rights, which are held sacred for all citizens. The National Soviet is the most democratic element in Nordiri society, it acts as a worker's union and somewhat of a senate. The courts act much as any modern judicial system, interpretation of laws, and as a check for the meritocracy. Political parties are illegal in Nordir, only the National Vanguard, the National Third Party is legitimate. Nordir is a paradox of extensive civil rights and almost no political freedoms. The prison system is a network of labor camps. Many petty offenses are only punnishable by fines, but most violent criminals are either put in hard labor camps or excecuted. Military service is compulsory for 2 years minimum. Brances of military include: The Offensive Legion (Army), The Shield Legion (National Guard), The Air Force, The Storm Legion (Elite soldiers), and the National Armada. A secret police and intelligence agency known simply as "The Order" is feared and respected.

Economy

The economy of Nordir is mainly centrally administered, allowing for some mild, non-destructive buisness that is heavily taxed. Religious organizations are allowed, however they are heavily taxed. Much of the economy is run by the executive command, but some descisions are challenged and compromised by the National Soviet. Some major industries include: Agriculture, mining, arms manufacturing, publishing, marijuana, the arts, and many more. The economy, like the population is steady, but not threatening to literally consume everything the nation stands for. The socialistic government taxes citzens proporionately to their wealth. They're are virtually no classes in most of Nordir, with some people falling through the cracks, and some rising above. There is inscentive to strive for excellence, as well as a safety net for unfortunate citizens. Healthcare, employment, and housing is universal.

Religion

The religion of Nordir is an ancient Nordic religion with strong values of honor and harmony with nature. It advocates balance and stability while reaching for excellence. Today, the religion is not taken seriously by most, but it's values still are strongly engrained in the Nordiri. Most Nordiri have awknowleged science and evolution as nature's law, however many see interesting parellels between natural history , written history, and Nordiri mythology.
